518983 2007-01-26 04:56:00 Essentially it is a case of supply not keeping up with demand. The governemtn could fix it by buying telecom back and investing back in hte network.
They have brought back the tracks, and also Air NZ, so why not our telecommunications? The only reason the prime city of NZ is stuck with one wired telco that doesn't have to worry too much about losing customers is the John Banks told Telstra where to go.
Were it not for that, half of Remurewa would be on cable now.

Also the "too many subscribers" argument doesn't wash, at least not for long, as a higher concentration of subscribers means it's far more economic to upgrade the whole thing and get thousands more connected than (for example) to get some horrid rural area serviced with maybe 50K's of buried fibre servicing a mere few hundred people.

518985 2007-01-27 03:10:00 IIRC it was something along the lines of "bugger off we don't want your ugly cables here. We prefer an unimpeded view of the powerlines..." Erayd (23)

518987 2007-01-27 03:46:00 Bet they made sure that she gets 7Meg on a 7Meg connection..

No, they won't. Telecom has made a policy decision to not use ADSL line repeaters - so she'll get the same as her neighbours.

Though - if she has crappy house wiring, someone may come and put a splitter in so she doesn't have to use in-line filters.

518988 2007-01-27 03:48:00 The article was interesting, because it showed that just because this woman had money, that she expected that she should be treated differently to the rest of the population for services.

Obvioulsy Vodafone and Woosh think this too, otherwise they wouldn't have rushed around to her house. They wouldn't do this for a normal wage earner.

On the contrary, the article should that she HADN'T tried to pull strings and that she had her name down like anyone else.

518989 2007-01-27 04:20:00 Did anyone hear the interview with the Big Cheese from Telecom being on RadioLive. She reiterated that Telecom spends $2billion a year upgrading everything blahdeblahdeblah...... Michael Laws bashed her for that statement as it was less than the profits/dividend they made Baldy (26)

Right.
So if I ring the news and complain about my broadband here, crowds of ISPs and media types will flock to my door?
