518186 2007-01-23 02:46:00 Well, getting a refund is pretty good really. Apart from the time trouble and petrol money, you are now back at square one.

I wouldn't worry about using up sympathy quota, they are, or have to be thick skinned in that job. I wouldn't worry either about going back there next auction and bidding again on stuff. They just want your money.

They will probably re-enter those Netvistas in the next auction, and with a bit of luck you may get them back again for a song, so as still to make a profit :).

I saw that they came with XP licenses stuck on the side.

518187 2007-01-23 03:45:00 A good outcome.

Now George, if it went the other way and you got better pc's than you actually bid on, would you let them know :o

518188 2007-01-24 02:00:00 Well done George .

As had been hinted at/mentioned up page, it was a rather sad coincidence that the 2 checked computers turned out to be the best ones as listed in the catalogue .

Even the suggestion of underhand dealing should have prompted Turners' to deal with the issue promptly rather than hiding behind TOU . Most unprofessional IMO .

518189 2007-01-24 02:32:00 However, you bought them at auction . You were assumed to know what you were doing . That's why they have inspection days: so you can look at lots, and know what you are buying . When you are buying a computer, it's up to you to see if it works, and what it contains .

If they say they have looked at two of a batch and they contain certain parts, that's all they are saying . The others might be the same; they might not . That's for you to determine . The auction staff haven't got time to do any more .

Turners were under no obligation to cancel the auction . In fact, at the fall of the hammer, the goods became your property, and the auctioneer was liable to the vendor for the amount you bid (less their commission) .

518190 2007-01-24 02:42:00 GL agreed, unless the, so called, listing error (ok.. partial listing), was a deceptive act to catch out noobs. Not that that's easy to prove nor necessarily wise to attempt. Murray P (44)
518191 2007-01-24 03:01:00 The funny thing about that was that none of them had 512MB ram, and they were all listed as such. I doubt it was foul play, but they could probably get away with it pretty easily. I REALLY have to be careful. One of the Dell D600s was covered in sticky goo at that auction .... all over the touchpad and stuff.

Anyway, I'm all sorted, picked up my cheque, and more auction-savvy for it I suppose.

Absolutely disgusting.... personally I blame the interweb.

518193 2007-01-25 09:25:00 Hi George,I went to the same auction to buy my Dad a new PC,I was the under-bidder assuming you won auctions 160 to 167? I thought I was going to be offered one as I thought at first you only wanted 5, Then I saw Chris Scrhoder(I think) approach you & then he turned to the auctioneer & said "he'll take the lot".
I didn't bid on lot 168 as it had cd-writer & I knew it would attract the bids.
I did however bid on & win lot 169 ,I had to go to $250+costs.
I too was disapointed when I got home & found there was only 256mb ram when it said in catalouge 512Mb. I put it down to bad luck for not getting there earlier & checking it out.
I only came to have a look at this thread after a mate told me about it.
After reading this thread I was off to see if the insides matched the model number on the front of case & can report that our Netvista is a P4 2.4Ghz. 8305-42a
I wonder what chris from turners would say if I ring him up about the ram? Obviously they all had 256mb.

Cheers Steve
PS: I don't suppose you have restore disk for this model? It has winxp pro licence sticker on the side but winXP Pro SP2 oem won't accept the number.

Compromise is always 'lose - lose' for both parties. I don't believe anyone feels good after a compromise. They should have really offered you one of the computers, for what you have been through as compenstation.
This auction company has clearly breached the fair trading act, otherwise he would never have refunded you.
