726944 2008-12-09 08:49:00 Lets assume for a moment that you do have a Legit COA - Since you said it was a HP, then there should be a COA on the Case - Easy way to find out what the problem is - if the XP is legal - and you have the XP CD - and being HP they wouldn't supply a XP CD, they supply Recovery CD's which are different , install that in its entirety - Don't use Nlite - then get the right drivers and see if the screen is any better - if it is then maybe you removed something with nlite that is causing the problem.

Whats the model of HP computer you have - if you provide the model then someone can direct to the correct drivers.

Says in the first post that he has a Compaq Presario V2000

Quite Right.

We are more than happy to help you, if you can prove we are helping you with legit software :)

No one else has to. But i suppose that's cool...

No one has to prove that they have legit software they need help with cos they don't ask for help with illegal software and then admit it.

Obey the forum rules (which you've read and agreed to) and we'll help you all you want.

726949 2008-12-09 17:55:00 Well it is a notebook so should have a built in mouse. Seriously Esayolay I would try Wainui's ideas first as he is always right gary67 (56)

Well actually i've being wasting all my time trying to get everyone to help me. If i want help i have to fight for it around here, which does take a lot of time.

In addition, i did know the inbuilt mouse was there :waughh: but i prefer to use an external mouse (like most people, i suspect).

Just a normal Windows Mouse. Red laser one.

I did obey them.

For the few people that actually have tried to help me, i have replied.

Thank you. I've tried the drivers on there but i have been unsuccessful. Maybe they are made for the recovery CD, for upgrades etc?
Also, in response to your previous post, I do not wish to use the full XP (with all the pre-installed software that comes with it) as the specs on the computer aren't too high.

Thanks :)

726951 2008-12-09 19:25:00 Also, in response to your previous post, I do not wish to use the full XP (with all the pre-installed software that comes with it) as the specs on the computer aren't too high Windows XP on its own does not have a lot of crap, it does have a few items that are not required, but if you have recovery CD's from HP then they will have added items that slow things down - the two are totally different . If the laptop is low in specifications then it would be better to upgrade the Laptop, than to take out important components of XP .

If you have recovery CD's and Not an actual XP CD, then they are not designed to be altered, sure you can - but its not a good idea .

The whole Idea behind putting in a full XP with the correct drivers is to see (no pun intended) if every thing works as it should as standard - if it does then you alter things - if it doesn't then there is a possible hardware problem .

Doing thing half hearted gets nowhere - only Leeds to frustration .

726952 2008-12-09 20:20:00 There's always the option of using the recovery CD's & then immediately un-installing any of the HP-supplied c**p you don't want...

This may seem a bit obvious to many, but - what I haven't seen mentioned anywhere is what resolution XP is using at the moment (in Display Properties) vs what resolution your LCD panel is (1280x800 or whatever). That's the most common cause of a "blurry" display.

The main issue is still that your gfx drivers should be able to pick the LCD resolution automatically & use that by default. Otherwise, it's as Wainui says - there may be a hardware issue.

726953 2008-12-09 21:41:00 Have you tried turning down hardware acceleration down a notch or 2?
Right click desktop>Properties>Settings Tab>Advanced>troubleshoot tab

Can you explain how the external mouse "doesn't" work?
Any errors in device manager?
Check if the "plug and play" service is running, if not, start the service and set it to automatic
Run>services.msc
