518811 2007-01-24 16:34:00 What we get here in San Jacinto is real cops who move like cardboard cut-outs . In fact, for a long time I thought the real cops were only made of cardboard . However, I am not sure if they are anatomically-correct cutouts .

The donut shops are very well protected, and since the County Sheriff took over from the city police (money problems caused the city to close the department), I think I might've seen 3 police cars actually on the street here . This was about three years ago . They might've been cardboard, though .

However, I posted (a while back) that the San Jacinto police have new Seqways to patrol the sidewalks . Now if only they could get them out into the real world and actually do some patrols with them . The officers are reluctant to use them as there are no cup holders or places for an MP3 player .

San Jacinto made the LA news, which is rather shocking as LA doesn't have a fig of an idea where San Jacinto is, in the form of a video-taped convenience store robbery as shown on the 6 o'clock news a few days ago .

As the thieves drove away, the camera caught a police cruiser parked in the lot, probably eating free donuts .

Police are asking for help to apprehend the criminals who wore hoodies and ski masks . The police have no idea who they might be even though they parked next to the getaway car in the parking lot .

"We had our trained eyes on the possibility of catching a jaywalker, attempting to cross the street without using the legally marked crosswalk area . Good police work requires detailed observation and dedication to purpose which we were using to our fullest capacity . The shame is that this would've made my quota for the month" .

The jaywalker got away .

518812 2007-01-24 17:29:00 This is not a new idea. Back in world war two England used mock tanks made out of plywood. I wonder how they stood up to a 3.5 inch rocket launcher? Sweep (90)
518813 2007-01-24 21:46:00 The M.O.T days were great, Even if you seen a car with a set of lights on it you had a 50/50 chance it was the police so no ticket, The M.O.T wouldn't see a crowbar on the backseat and start taking the attitude that you were a theif and start talking to ya like a piece of ****, Hell, The M.O.T didn't have a shred of the "tough guy" syndrome that infects NZ police, Plus you could get let off just about anything, and they wouldn't get too upset when you done a bit of a runner.<rant>In my experience as a motorcycle courier in the late eighties (possibly biased because of this :) ), MOT and city council cops were just arrogant b*****ds who liked nothing more than a chase if you tried to do a runner and *loved* giving out infringement notices when(if) they caught you. I considered myself a professional driver and did around 6000km a month for five years - only three minor accidents at under 30km/h in that time, own fault, no other vehicle involved, no serious damage to me (apart from pride!) or my vehicle - and mostly at speeds in excess of the posted limit. MOT officers were understood by my colleagues at the time to be the rejects from Police College. City council cops were worse again.

I get very hot under the collar when I hear the Police ranting about how the road toll is coming down and they are responsible for it. Total BS. Cars are safer, roads are better (marginally). But the main cause of accidents and deaths on the road is still the driver not 'driving to the conditions' - or their skill level for that matter! There will ALWAYS be deaths on the road, even if the speed limit was reduced to 50km/h - mainly from frustrated drivers trying to get where they are going a bit quicker! Speed does not kill - what kills is speeding inappropriately. As a motorcycle courier, my income depended on me getting as many jobs done a day as I could - the more jobs, the more money. But I lived to tell the tale, because I didn't speed, for instance, through near-stationary traffic or through red lights. I tried to use common sense to choose when it was appropriate/safe to speed.</rant>

Hmm...as much as i agree with some of your points, I have no issue with any organization coming down hard on motorcycle couriers, especially ones who think the law doesn't apply to them as it gets in the way of making money.

I know a couple people selling pot who have the exact same view.......
