727031 2008-12-09 10:16:00 I just got home from the movies with my fiancé and Xnet appears down :(

Using my iPhone via 3G to post, even xnet homepage appears offline when I try and check their network status :(

Am I alone in my woes? Living out West Auckland.. Not that many others who might be affected could post, but yeah.. :D

727032 2008-12-09 10:28:00 could be the same problem people like myself had with telecom last week or the week before.
it's frustrating isnt it but i guess you'll have to wait till morning :D

I doubt they'd just go out of business with no warning to their customers like that.

The site seems to be working for me at the moment, by the way. It is xnet.co.nz, right?

You'd be surprised, some online companies just disappear overnight . I had a web host that did that . That was a bit tongue and cheek from me, as most companies these days are blaming the credit cruch for their problems .
There website has just come back online and has a status message about the outage, but it doesn't explain why their own website was offline for an hour or so .

727036 2008-12-09 10:43:00 Yup, dropped off for an hour, came back on around 11.36.

Xnet's homepage (now back up) says that its a unscheduled outage.

I don't know why their helpline doesn't have a "What is our status" option. I mean ***, even Woosh has had that for > 3 years. How are we supposed to check on their website when we have no BB and its down anyway.

Our 2nd day with Xnet btw

727037 2008-12-09 11:14:00 Yeah kinda blows ... this is why you have a "redundancy" plan -- And you host your website in somebody elses data center... r-tards!

That'd be like Vodafone using themselves for their NOC... I can see it now "Hey, Vodafones down, lets ring their NOC and let them know.... Wait... That number is down too..."

Anyways, its 12:19 and Im back up...

727038 2008-12-09 11:57:00 Eh, we have the same sort of problem on Xtra. They'll just randomly die on us now and then, sometimes taking out all phone service along with it.

Apart from this little hiccup, how is Xnet? It's another tempting ISP to switch to, especially it's torrent plan, but I've heard inconsistent things about it's speed and usability lately, some people saying it was becoming 'unusable' at peak times.

727039 2008-12-09 12:29:00 Nah Xnet's speed has been just fine for me :D

I just fired up a download just now, getting around 450KB/s from the states (Its 1:30AM)

See here for my glorious speeds this morning:
pressf1.co.nz

Overall their service hasnt been too bad ... gotta say though Ive loved Orcons service lately (Dealing with them on behalf of somebody else), absolutely top-notch like you wouldnt believe! Some guy from Sales, Richard, really went out of his way.. :)

727040 2008-12-09 12:37:00 Hm, sounds good. My speeds would probably be slower since I'm not that close to the exchange, but oh well.

Unfortunately it sounds like they're changing their torrent plan from midnight to 8am to 2am to 8am -- who wants to stay up that late to start some downloads? They're still a tempting choice though.

Do you know how they are about capping your speed? Do they cap you as soon as you use up your allowance, or do they do it on a need to sort of basis? Sometimes with Xtra I can get away with a few days at full speed even after going past my limit.

Edit: My exchange doesn't support adsl2 yet either, which probably makes a big difference.
