726850 2008-12-09 02:57:00 Hi guys, I did a quick search regarding this but could not find a good post. Sorry if its repeating again :)

Just looking for a good laptop in the Market. Actually my mate is buying it for his parents who are overseas.

Requirements: Most reliable as its going to be overseas and too much pain for them to go around and look for dealer there.
Just normal browsing and writing documents and so on. Basic usage only.

I had bought Toshiba about 2years ago and its still working great without any issues.

So is toshiba still good reliable laptop?
I asked the guy at C1shoppingmall in Auckland and he said HP and Lenovo are good laptops as well for the similar price as toshiba.
budget: approx $1200 or less.

he suggested this one....

Just an example above the toshiba costs more than the HP. HP has higher spec CPU and so on.

Just wondering what do you guys suggest? Thanks.

726851 2008-12-09 03:03:00 Definitely Toshiba or Asus-HP is OK but comes with quite a bit of bloatware.

The toshiba one that the guy recommended is pretty bad value, I would get the hp instead, as it has a much faster processor .

I'll find a few ones off dse and post the links here-then you look around for the cheapest prices

Cheers:)

726853 2008-12-09 03:09:00 BTW-In your case pretty much any laptop will be fast enough for those needs-but get something faster so you can use it longer.

Here's a few good one's:

note:NEVER GET ACER-everything will fail within a month of purchase......

Edit: Just got an idea. Seeing as the needs are basic, would they consider netbooks?

726854 2008-12-09 03:12:00 Thanks will keep away from ACER and also DELL (heard bad thing about it too).

726856 2008-12-09 03:32:00 Oh yah. I have seen some of these, they are tiny and small. very cool. But none of them have a DVD drive. Just incase they need to use it for something or install software.

Blam6 the toshiba one from your links has good specs for that price.

726859 2008-12-09 12:04:00 My bro-in-law is a senior manager with HP in Houston and they regard Toshiba as about the best. I have a Toshiba M600 - a great little beast! Fishb8 (484)
