726645 2008-12-08 06:20:00 AMD Athlon with Windows XP Home Edition crashed and C Drive (System and programs) image restored with Acronis Image Disk Wizard. Problem is on boot up Chkdsk starts and scans the back up drive (Drive 2) and repairs truncated files and then hangs. Reset then reboots and the same thing happens it gets through parts 1-3 of the scans and hangs on the next lot. Next time it might get only to the first scans and hangs or goes a little further before hanging. There is nothing on Drive 2 - should I erase it with Disc Wizard; would this help? Any suggestions welcome. Krad (7878)

You sure? How is it repairing files then?
Format it if you're sure its nothing you need.

726647 2008-12-08 09:00:00 Try this:

I was having this problem until today. I used this simple fix. It might
help you.

1. click on your start menu and open the run dialog.
2. type "cmd" and return (note: dont enter quotes)
3. Next type "fsutil dirty query $:"
4. If the return message indicates that the volume is dirty go to step 5
5. Next type "chkdsk $: /f /x"
6. After that finshes repeat step 3.
7. If it is no longer dirty then reboot and you should notice no more
ckdisk.

NOTE:REPLACE $ WITH DRIVE LETTER

If this process doesn't work check out Kelly's site, listed by a
previous response earlier today.

726648 2008-12-08 20:53:00 Thanks guys.
Have tried Blam6's procedure and it works ok but the backup drive is so corrupted that I'll reformat it as pctec suggests.
