518803 2007-01-24 06:17:00 Here's a radical thought......maybe a real cop car!

Crazy I can drive on and off for three weeks around the southern north island and not see one.....then see four on my way to work in the morning.

Wouldn't have happened with the old M.O.T. They were everywhere...and drivers lived in fear of them.

From what I can remember of my younger days.....

How do you no you didn't see one. They also drive round in muffty cars of various makes and models and not always new, some up to even 10 years old.

518805 2007-01-24 06:40:00 Deterrence is half the battle.

Even if they're there....if people believe they're not...then the battle ain't being won.

518806 2007-01-24 07:55:00 I remember seeing a large billboard in New South Wales with a large photo of a line up all sorts of cars. One was a fourwheel drive with a surf board on the roof. Another was a VW Beetle and so on. The caption asked "Which of these is a mufti police car?" The answer was, "They all are!"

518807 2007-01-24 08:21:00 The M.O.T days were great, Even if you seen a car with a set of lights on it you had a 50/50 chance it was the police so no ticket, The M.O.T wouldn't see a crowbar on the backseat and start taking the attitude that you were a theif and start talking to ya like a piece of ****, Hell, The M.O.T didn't have a shred of the "tough guy" syndrome that infects NZ police, Plus you could get let off just about anything, and they wouldn't get too upset when you done a bit of a runner.
