518301 2007-01-22 07:44:00 Our drain at home has suddenly become blocked (the outside one, where water from the kitchen and bathroom waste outlets go to). It appears that there is a "soapy" like substance forming blobs which are clogging it up - most likely due to a mix between fats/oils washed down the sink + dishwasher wastewater which is highly alkaline forming some form of "soap".

However, our attempts at forcing the blockage out using a bit of pipe, high pressure hose, and also digging at it with something, hasn't worked - the blockage seems to be further down the pipe than we think.

Other than calling in a plumber, does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this problem?

518302 2007-01-22 07:50:00 Other than some of that acid drain stuff which probably won't work anyway - no.
Ad you call drainage tradesmen, not plumbers.

518303 2007-01-22 08:09:00 If you suspect it to be highly basic, then try some acid. HCL anyone? qazwsxokmijn (102)
518304 2007-01-22 08:11:00 I was considering trying something chemical-based, however I fear that the blockage may be too severe for it to be effective. I'll give it a shot though. somebody (208)
518305 2007-01-22 08:24:00 Does the toilet still flush or does that come back through the trap as well?
The blockage could be tree roots metres down the pipe, how will any chemicals get there without any water flow?
