517838 2007-01-20 05:07:00 Since reading that the best/most reliable are those made in Japan I always check the small print.
NewWorld are stocking Sony DVD+RW(made in Japan) singles @$8.99
and the same ones, made in Taiwan @$22.79 for a spindle of 10!
OK, you get a jewel case with the singles and bulk buys are always cheaper but the difference in price is still a rort.
Surely they're not racking up the price just because of the country of origin?

517840 2007-01-20 09:50:00 RWs are always more expensive although $8.99 is nearly double what you'd expect - except this is a supermarket and they have to make a profit where they can.

I recall reading that spindle disks are usually of inferior quality as compared with the individually packaged disks - even with exactly the same brand. Anyone know?

517841 2007-01-20 09:59:00 In my experience, Yes.

I buy by the spindle, and have on occasion thrown out the entire spindle of DVD's after grabbing a few "on special",

usually I throw away 4 or 5 disc's per spindle, Just turn em over and look at the die, If its splotchy or running at the edges then its not going to work.

I don't recall having any that were packaged in Jewel cases being defective.

517842 2007-01-21 12:10:00 Hmm, $8.99 for a single layer disc??? I usually just get a spindle of discs (No problem so far) or a single Sony jewel case but even those aren't this expensive. But no idea where mine are made. But still $8.99, damn thats a lot just for a DVD. beeswax34 (63)
517843 2007-01-21 17:45:00 I suppose if it's dual layer, and perhaps printable, for a single disk that price is to be expected. Greg (193)

Yes you have to be careful when buying some brands of Dual Layer and single layer DVDs. I have a Mitsubishi DL DVD but nearly bought the single layer version as the covers are identical apart from Double Layer written on it, and from a distance look the same.
