728119 2008-12-12 06:32:00 For any one wanting the Beta of Vista SP2 - in other words, want to test out the new service pack Here tis (www.microsoft.com) - Keep in mind it is BETA - so wise not to go installing on a critical machine. Download is 388Mb wainuitech (129)
728120 2008-12-12 06:36:00 I'd rather wait for the final release, when does that come out by the way? GameJunkie (72)
728121 2008-12-12 06:43:00 Like wise I wait till the full Version on any machines that I use all the time - But some people dont want to wait and like playing with Beta's - Downloading it now, may chuck Vista on a Workshop PC tomorrow and see " whats New" if it screws it - no big deal.

Whens it due out  When has MS ever put stuff out on given dates :p From the technet site:

Service Pack Information

* SP2 Beta is pre-release code which will change before the final release of SP2
* Windows Server 2008 SP2/Windows Vista SP2 Beta is time-limited software that will operate until May 1st, 2010 - Un-install Windows Server 2008 SP2/Windows Vista SP2 Beta before May 1st, 2010
o After SP2 installation your desktop may display the text “Evaluation Copy”. This does not mean that your system is no longer “Genuine”, only that you have installed a test version of software which is time-limited
o After installing the service pack, the “Evaluation Copy” text may show up on the 2nd boot
o After un-installing the services pack, the "Evaluation Copy" text may remain during the first boot, but will disappear after the next reboot
* Starting any Windows Server 2008 SP2 or Windows Vista SP2 installations will result in Microsoft collecting information about the installation process So some time before May 2010

728122 2008-12-12 06:58:00 From what I've read online so far and what I've experienced, most users won't visually see any changes, but microsoft has *said* that SP2 offers better reliability.

Thats probably the main thing in SP2.

And SP1. BTW you'll need to install SP1 before you can apply SP2.

From my sources that isn't true.
SP2 even comes with a tool that removes SP1 for more hard drive space.
Forgot the exact name though...

728125 2008-12-12 07:25:00 According to the Technet Site
Major Changed Components

This section describes the major Areas and Subareas that underwent various changes toward improving quality across the operating system

The page they give is huge - But Here (www.imagef1.net.nz) is whats listed as the changed areas. I've put it as **Name Of Area** in between the **'s

Edited: from the previous question about the available date of SP2 full from the FAQ
When will Windows Vista SP2 be released?

We will be in a better position to more firmly address our release timeline once we have received feedback from our beta participants. We currently estimate that Service Pack 2 will ship in the first half of 2009. and re the do you need SP1 ??
Are there any prerequisites for SP2?

You must have Windows Vista with SP1 or Windows Server 2008 with SP1 installed on your PC before installing Service Pack 2.

If you choose to install SP2 over Windows Update there will be one pre-required package to install, Servicing Stack Update (KB955430), before Windows Update offers you SP2.

The Servicing stack is the component that handles installation and removal of software updates, language packs, and optional windows features. This update is necessary to successfully install and uninstall the service pack; it also improves the performance and reliability of the service pack installation.

728127 2008-12-12 09:32:00 God I hope they fix the Vista/XP networking problem. Tried everything but still only get 1.2 mb/sec max file transfer rates between my Vista and XP PC's. supersi (8401)
728128 2008-12-12 10:11:00 Not sure if thats fixed supersi-but I do know they are introducing something called WCN(windows connect now) and means we won't have to click 5 times just to connect to a network! Blam (54)
