727311 2008-12-10 02:17:00 Can you use solid-state disks in Linux? i.e. are they just treated the same as any other SATA drive from a driver point of view?

Seems that a SSD would be a perfect choice for a HTPC box!!

727313 2008-12-10 03:35:00 Why a SSD for a HTPC?

You could go with a CF Card, they're *heaps* cheaper .. !

I setup a HTPC for a friend in a Mini-ITX case, Mini-ITX Dual-core 1.6Ghz Atom, 4GB CF card ... cheap as chips, and it plays HD movies quite well (Stream across the network). Have only tried 720p movies so far, but still..

727315 2008-12-10 08:29:00 Indeed :) Except its much easier to buy a CF -> IDE adapter for ~USD$7, works on *all* PC's with no fuss. Costs a *little* more though when you add it all up vs an SD card & an internal Adapter for one Chilling_Silence (9)
