520411 2007-01-29 18:17:00 Was asked to look at a computer yesterday. It was the familys upgrade model (running Windows 98 on a Cyrix II). The computer was having dialup issues in that it wouldnt accept any new accounts. Kept coming up with a dial-up network file is either corrupt or missing.

Anyway, during the course of trying to manually fix it, I came across a few sites from MS's wonderful knowledge base (having started doing some tech only a few years ago, I don't know 98 or dialup intimately) that have now been edited to the point where there is just a brief first paragraph and a bunch of links that link you to a 'heading' further down the page; which shows you the appropriate fix for the OS concerned. However, upon clicking said heading, I am taken to a nice large area of blank screen.

I realise MS has decided to stop support for 95, 98, ME but what is the point of leaving a basically useless page with nothing but a paragraph saying "This is how you fix this problem on Windows 98, or ME... "? And why delete all the old info?? Running out of harddrive space? (the company that could buy Seagate with its pocket money). Do they think that with their support dropping off that everyone suddenly got a bonus payout and went and bought a new machine??

Yet another fine example by MS showing forethought, and concern for the users of their products. Hats off and 10 out of 10 for pure ignorance

In the end I decided to run a dirty install, not my preferred option, but the machine is fixed and running 100% (there ended up being a few things wrong, the modem was dodgy as well).

520413 2007-01-29 19:51:00 I get the half-blank pages often on the MS support knowledge base. Think they are taking exception to the browser/OS I am using :p. Anyway, if I hit F5 the page loads properly with all the content. Try that on the offending page. Jen (38)

The same thing happens in FF here.

Not all of the page loads, unless u use something like the IEtab plugin with FF.

It happens with Opera too.
