520951 2007-02-01 02:14:00 NB: all figures were just guestimates, but i thought 500 million US citizens plus businesses would allow for 100million business copies to be sold, with shops collecting $200 on each one. especially considering after 2 reinstalls u need to buy a new one. i do realise i have not factored in OEM packages into the $400
what? so if you have to do a reinstall on the same hardware after the second time you need to buy a new copy. Forgive me if I am wrong but that sounds like a load of BS. If it's true you would be a mug to buy it.

well it's what i've heard, so yes, you would be a mug to buy it, so by trying to prevent piracy MS is actually encouraging it

520953 2007-02-01 12:32:00 Yes hackers.
However crackers - the ones likely to find ways around MS legit copies, don't usually have anything to do with malware.

Bit of a debate over the terminlogy I know but I consider crackers to be in that category as opposed to hacking.

And I suppose a friend of mine could be considered a cracker - he isn't interested in disabling piracy checks, but he does like to pull programs inc O/Ss to bits to disable or alter things he finds annoying.
He's one of the most handy guys I know. Long may he continue.
I think you have that all wrong. Crackers are doing things with some malicious intent where as hackers just like dabling in all that code like your friend. It is the bloody dumb journalists that have used the hacker term incorrectly.
