519519 2007-01-28 09:13:00 I am more interested in comparing the features of Vista with other similar systems on the market to see how they compare. My guess, based on what I am used to, is that Vista will still be some way behind. Since I am not a gamer I am not looking for any gaming capabilites in Vista. winmacguy (3367)
519520 2007-01-28 09:39:00 Is microsoft giving away fee copies of office 2007 this time? For Office 2003, they gave away 10 copies to the first 10 people at each Noel Leeming Store in NZ. rogerp (6864)
519521 2007-01-28 09:41:00 That would be interesting to know. I hadn't heard anything around the traps at this stage. Im an OpenOffice user myself :) winmacguy (3367)

I believe they did the same for the office XP release. They however may not be doing it this time, as office 2007 seems to be getting released at the same time as vista so that may be getting them enough of a promotion in the media.

ALso wondering, it appears you can upgrade from windows 2000, which is a bit of a surprise, as windows 2000 OEM isn't software locked on a single PC like it is with XP OEM. DOes this mean that if you have a copy of windows 2000 oem, that you can effectively install it on any one single PC. Vista obviously isn't going to work well on a computer that you purchased win 2000 OEM, which is probably a 5-6 year old PC.

519523 2007-01-28 10:09:00 I think you might be severly struggling to run a decent version of Vista on a 6 year old PC rogerp. Possibly you might be ok on say Vista Basic edition although I don't think there would be much point to that since you pretty much want to be able to run Vista Ultimate to get the full benefits of the new Aero GUI. winmacguy (3367)

519525 2007-01-28 20:59:00 I hear Bill Gates is pretty excited about XP coming out ! Digby (677)
519526 2007-01-28 21:01:00 Much as most of us don't see any need for Vista (nor do I) the fact is that all new PCs sold will soon all have it on them so in a year or so we will appear to be luddites stuck on XP !

Aero is just the name for the flashier look of Vista. I think that it has become one of the major selling points for Vista after most of the other features were dropped.
