| 520931 | 2007-01-31 05:29:00 | game producers (with the exception of MS) wont make games requiring dx10 untill a large portion of the market actually has dx10, so don't expect to need dx10 for atleast a year or two.... personally, i won't be upgrading to vista until the start of 2009. i'll give it two years for several reasons: (in no particular order) 1: security - let the big holes get fixed 2: hardware support - it is currently very limited, but should be sweet by july this year 3: hardware prices - in two years the vista capable pc will be again under the $1000 mark 4: Service Pack 2 - i will wait for this as i did for XP, as i don't intend to be microsoft's crash test dummy (excuse the pun). i hear they are already planning sp1 5: DX10 - as above, i'll probably need it by then, unless linux or mac become feasable 6: OS price - holy **** that's expensive. i read that if i am to buy vista to do anything i like to do, i have to buy the $600 version. otherwise the only difference is hidden settings and fancy, but non-aero graphics. i hope that either the price comes down, or my income goes up. being half way through my engineering degree and therefore owing the govt over $10,000 at that point in time, i'd better start buying lotto tickets:rolleyes: and this of course give linux and mac time to come up with something good |

Because I don't see Apple going all out for games in the near future, they are more interested in making the living room/home entertainment set up simple, hence the recent release of the Apple TV setup. |

| 520933 | 2007-01-31 06:42:00 | I am curious to see what the Vista hardware requirement will do to the average price of a basic spec'd PC as I don't see the sub $1,000 PC lasting much longer. I am under the impression that PCs with a base price of $2000 might start to become the norm in the next 12 to 18 months or so as the newer Vista OEM capable machines start to come through. Just a thought. Hmm... there were some computers at Harvery, their mailout at $1200 or about with Vista Home Basic. Well .. the min requirements by Microsoft is 800Mhz and 512MB and a DX9 video card (assuming builtin one) which the Basic version supports, so I guess thats certified :p They can pop a little sticker on it. I wonder if all the computers has been opened up and reloaded with Vista and replaced their recovery CDs ... overnight or when a purchase was made. Reminds me of Office 2000 days, when they had standard, professional, and premium versions ..... With the Campbell Live show. Without Vista I could get speech recognition, I could watch HD, I could use a tablet PC, their other features like firewall isn't v good anyway, I vaguely recall if Vista has a full security suiite out as well .. I bet if I look around if a Aero flip is available .. maybe or maybe not .... The thing I like about Vista is the Aero 3D and its little features like the searchers, not much .. The Warehouse now shipping Vista as well with their sub $1,000 computers? |

| 520935 | 2007-01-31 06:59:00 | The Cambell peice ended up looking like an ad for vista. But all the things that they said it could do is already available with xp, except the graphis and a new file organisation... if I have to learn a new o/s then why not give mac a try, if apple is smart they'll try to match prices, I saw a nice looking apple system the other day for$2800, and then theres bootcamp...only issue I have is, does apple have the same sort of drm rules or whatever built into the os, can i walk into dick smiths and upgrade my components? Not wiyh vista or so I'm led to beleive. | limepile (96) | ||

As far as Tiger goes and Leopard when it is released around April sometime, there is NO DRM and one size fits all users. I think they do a 5 user family discount pack as well. Apple is not worried about matching prices. Their OS sells for 1 flat price and the hardware gradually comes down in price as scales of economy allow. If you can figure your way around Vista then you pretty much already know your way around OS X 10.4 size Vista is pretty much a feature for feature carbon copy of OS X 10.2/10.3 You can get Move to Mac as well or load Parallels and run XP and OS X together. |

In terms of upgrading drives can be upgraded right and the vid and sound cards or anyother like USB, SCSI ? Windows have been able to be maximised since Version 9, Right click PC mice since version 10x. Apple released a rice click Apple mouse about 1.5 years ago if my memory serves me correctly. Hard drives can be freely swapped out, as with suitable video and sound cards depending on the Mac model you have. |

| 520939 | 2007-01-31 08:03:00 | I dont understand why hackers get a total buzz out of cracking microsofts new os vista whats the thrill in it is it just so they can gloat to their friends and say aye guess what i cracked vista big deal . It more or less like anything that electronic if its a burglar alarm keypad or a bank safe they will crack it so whats the big deal . These guys must be so bored and desperate for something to do they have to crack everything just for a cheap kick . For the average joe, vista or any other microsoft os works fine for them so why do these other boffins have to try one upmanship to prove they can crack an os it doesnt make sense to me . |
