2008-12-10 16:58:00 | Guess I spoke too soon. The spyware and popup tabs keep coming back, so it appears the error messages upon startup are the least of my worries. I will try all the other stuff you mentioned when I have a chance.

2008-12-10 19:04:00 | Sounds it a bit like the one I got here at the moment- thought it was "getting there" then wham ! right back again. You can try this if you want, but there is a warning, on some machines it can do system damage - so far only had 1 PC screw up, out of the many I have used this ( 100 +) - make sure system restore is turned back on make a restore point - download and run ComboFix (www.bleepingcomputer.com) - heres the important part - let it do its thing fully, sometimes it appears to be hanging or doing nothing - do not try to reboot or stop it other wise it will cause problems - when the report pops up then its finished. Personally I never load the recovery console - up to you if you want to- but combofix does work well.

2008-12-10 19:33:00 | Thanks for the combofix mention, Wainui. Sounds a bit like chemotherapy - we've got to hurt you to fix you!! Haven't had to get this drastic before but I've got it tagged. Good luck with your cleanup, Basketball - sounds to be a really nasty one.

Haven't had to get this drastic before but I've got it tagged. It just a warning that they put up - a bit like any cleanup software really - removing the infections can sometimes make a system unstable. I have had that happen when using spybot and Malwarebytes as well - just covering their backsides I guess. |

2008-12-10 21:40:00 | OK So apparently I have had Trojan Remover installed at some point in the past, because it simply says my evaluation period has expired and wants me to sign up for the full version. Is there any way to re-evalute it? Or is there any other program I can use that would do the same thing? | BasketballOSU (14267) | |
2008-12-11 00:08:00 | Dang, this sucks. Anyone have any ideas as to where to go from here? | BasketballOSU (14267) | |
2008-12-11 00:13:00 | Did you uninstall MCafee and install Avast Home (free) or NOD32 (you pay for it)?? I would then update it, then scan the whole hdd

2008-12-11 00:45:00 | If you run combofix as posted in 12, that will get rid of most of the problems. Whats left should be easily removed. Just run it this morning on two PC's - heading back to their owners soon, similar sort of popups as you are having.

2008-12-11 19:57:00 | Alright, just got finished with that scan for Combofix, do I need to post a log here for you guys to take a look at? | BasketballOSU (14267) | |
2008-12-11 20:37:00 | You can if you want - Pancake knows how to read them better, but I do know the basics of them. once posted, may pay to send Pancake a PM and ask if hes got time to look at it for you. Post a Hijack Log as well. Did combofix locate and remove any more of the infections ?? Are you still getting any pop ups, messages etc ?
