Why do you?

And in that case why waste that much money on hardware that will be obsolete in no time?

What do you base that theory on?

520788 2007-01-31 01:48:00 What do you base that theory on?:confused:As soon as you buy it. However, you will have something that will last you quite a long time. My nearly 4 year-old Athlon XP based system, with minor tweaks, GF card and RAM upgrade, is still fine for my needs. I hope to get another 2+ years out of it. KiwiTT_NZ (233)
520789 2007-01-31 01:58:00 Well there is obsolete and there is a 3 - 4 year hardware lifespan. Depends of course on the reason for getting such high specd hardware that can run 2 OSs simultaneously. As a home user I couldn't even begin to dream about spending that sort of cash - even $2,000 is a fair amount but if I was buying a hi specd machine for commercial use like engineering or design of somesort and could write off the cost as a tax deductable expense then I could see a reason for it. winmacguy (3367)
520790 2007-01-31 03:10:00 YUSS!! I now officially own one of the fastest workstations on the earth!! is currently running Windows Vista Ultimate and the performance is blistering.

2x 3.0GHz Dual Core Xeon (Thats right, 3GHz in each core!)

8GB of DDR2 ECC

512MB NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500

1x 250GB HD, 3x 500GB HD in SoftRaid

DVD SuperDrive

but the best part of the package?

the 23 inch Apple Cinema Display!!
lol.

And please understand that I need to have Windows- as much as I hate it, i have no choice

An apple mac?, running Windows software?, does not compute?

It is an apple isnt it?, I thought that although it was Intel cpu x86, it would still have Mac software.......confused...

However 4 x 3Ghz processor, LOL, that would do some mean encoding.....

Thats the spec on my new SQL box!

enjoy

You might want to check out Parallels http://www.parallels.com/
or Boot Camp.
Things have changed a lot in the last 2 years or so. It is what is known as an Intel Mac as opposed to the "old" IBM/Motorola PPC chips in the G4 and G5 series of Macs.

well you can either dual boot, run windows within OS X or delete apple OS and run soley Vista.
either way apples high end machines are competitive price wise with dell's work stations

Years of observation.

520794 2007-01-31 04:22:00 Well I guess you could say the same for most electronic goods and computer software, which is why if your in business you have depreciation. winmacguy (3367)
520795 2007-01-31 05:11:00 why did you buy such an expensive/powerful machine? i'm sure you can meet vista's recommended specs for less than that lol

but seriously now, why such a beast?
