520567 2007-01-30 23:38:00 I've seen too many retards start uni etc with the sole purpose of making big bucks at the end . All these people suddenly seem to think that if they become an accountant, they'll get paid huge sums of money . Too bad for them that each year there are more commerce graduates than art graduates . Luckily most of these retards drop out (~50%) after a year after figuring out their dreams of big money require intelligence and hard work . Some of them keep on doing it because a) their arrogant, b) Daddy is making them (this is a biggy), or c) heaven forbid they like getting drunk at university .

The big companies (KPMG, PWC etc) only take the very best, and by that, since there's so much competition, so if you're not getting straight A+ from the first year, good luck finding a decent job . Although I know someone (economics major) who's starting on 70k, but is already working 70 hour weeks .

I think the universities fool a lot of money out of people, but hey, everyone is allowed their extortion racket; BCom is theirs . Don't even get me started about Law/BCom conjoints . People make jokes about lawyers and accountants for a reason .

Moral of the story: don't do everything with the sole purpose of making money, you'll end up as a lawyer or accountant and trying to defend yourself against a wave of jokes .

PWC work their new staff to the bone . I have a friend who is an accountant, and he really hated his first 3 years of his job, to the extent that he almost committed suicide . He however moved overseas and joined a company working in finance, and is enjoying it . He however wished he never became an accountant as he says it is so boring

520568 2007-01-31 00:09:00 Many years ago a happy and wise family friend told me "The secret of success is, first discover what you love to do then find someone to pay you to do it, you will never do a days "work" in your life" He was a radio engineer, his hobby was amateur radio and his job was a field engineer for the BBC in the UK. So, what do you love to do? JackStraw (6573)
520569 2007-01-31 04:09:00 I don't quite understand what a "Bachelor of Architectural Studies" course is - does that mean you will have a good knowledge of all the people who have studied Architecture and their studies or what? A course in Architecture would seem better.
But then I'm just a simple Civil Engineer so I may not comprehend too well.

520570 2007-01-31 09:04:00 im not quite sure if you mean software designer or like a house/commercial designer.

regardless..my sister studied for 3 years at unitec and dropped it cause she was bored.

her husband studied 3 years at unitec then did his remainder at auckland uni. why because he believes unitec is very good for the practical aspect and AU for the theoritcal side. also unitec is much more friendly with people in the indsutry and will help you with getting a job..where as AU is not.

he ended up graduating with a honors on his bachelors.

good luck

I highly object to be being called a retard on a public forum when this person has no idea of my skills and qualifications and should have maybe bothered to find out before slagging off against my character and my way of looking at things . I got 96% in IGCSE Accounting along with 92% in Business Studies and in 6th form CIE which just haapens to equivalent to 1st year Accounting at Uni,l I got 91% along with 92% for Business . I object to incompetent and slovenly hacks such as this poster not doing their homework and simply assuming things about people . There is nothing wrong with setting out in life with the object of making money and "DAVE" I dont mind working hard . You might and thats why you'll struuglw through life but let me assure you that I unlike some can indeed "hack it" without any problems . And I'm not going to drop out either .

Please refrain from calling people "retards". That is not necessary. You have obviously got a bee in your bonnet on this topic. Please keep it nice. Jen (38)

520576 2007-01-31 10:51:00 In my defense, i never called him a retard . I never made any assumptions about you, and I certainly never called you incompetent . I won't have a penis-size competition about my achievements either .

But I'll stop, for this will turn to a flame war . I should become an academic, apparently their totally arrogant about those in the Real World .
