2007-01-29 02:06:00 | You don't have to notify PC World of the change of email address, you just change it yourself under your UserCP details here (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz). Gmail is a web-based email system. You normally log into the website so that you can read your emails. However, Gmail allows you to directly download your emails onto your computer using your normal email program just like how you receive your ISP emails. The details on how to do this can be found in your Gmail account under Settings > Forwarding and POP > POP download. Er yes Jen. I have changed my UserCP details - and actually that is what I meant by notifying PCWorld. But now I am more confused - I can get onto my account with gmail by going through GOOGLE etc - but it does seem a long winded way of doing things. Obviously I don't want to stop my normal emails coming through Slingshot because that means notifying loads of people again. I thought I could perhaps have another icon on my desktop to call up my account with gmail, (as an alternative to SLINGSHOT) but accesssing gmail help files hasn't told me if that is possible - and its beyond me at the moment. | 519904 | 2007-01-29 02:14:00 | You can download the Gmail emails into Outlook or Outlook Express automatically. Did you follow the instructions I gave you before? To make it clearer: Log onto your Gmail account. Click on the "Setttings" link found at the very top right hand corner. Click on the "Forwarding and POP" tab. Under POP Download, put a check in the "Enable POP for all mail" Click "Save Changes" I am assuming you use Outlook Express? - How to configure them (mail.google.com). There is a link called "Run the auto-configuration tool" which will download a program to configure everything for you. Just use that. Let us know how you get on. :)

2007-01-29 02:42:00 | Just to muddy things a little more...if Tom10 wants to get his address book into GMail really fast, he can just create an e-mail in his old account..whatever it is, and then just broadcasting some spam to all his contacts in that old service, he can then copy/paste the addresses in the SEND TO area into the same area (Create Mail line) in GMail. Doing this once places all the addresses in GMail from then on as long as the originals were separated by a comma. And...while he's at it, he can also send out (in that false e-mail mentioned) that he's changing his e-mail address to his GMail address all in one fell swoop. This is a lot faster and neater than generating an Excel spreadsheet document for importing them.

2007-01-29 02:57:00 | Hi Thomas I realise you are probably starting to get a bit of information overload If you could answer the following questions it would be a great help What email client are you using to get your emails (outlook, OE) if you are using either of these follow the instructions Jen has given What browser are you using The reason i ask about the browser is that their is a gmail notifier plugin for firefox that will tell you if you have new mail If you use IE there is a standalone gmail notifier that can be downloaded that will notify you of new messages Obviously I don't want to stop my normal emails coming through Slingshot because that means notifying loads of people again. I thought I could perhaps have another icon on my desktop to call up my account with gmail, (as an alternative to SLINGSHOT) but accesssing gmail help files hasn't told me if that is possible - and its beyond me at the moment. Tom Adding gmail will not effect your current emails, i have 7 different email accounts all going into my email client

And it looks as though I am now also getting notifications from PCWorld with my new gmail account. So what are SLINGSHOT up to? I am still waiting for an answer from them. I bet it all turns out to be my fault somewhere!! Tom |

2007-01-31 01:30:00 | Irrespective of whose fault it was - Welcome back. (I found my mental picture of that Junior Member called Tom10, who has 4 posts, rather hard to reconcile with that of Thomas01. Are you burying young Tom now, or keeping him as a grandson?)

2007-01-31 19:40:00 | Well it looks as if Thomas01 is back again . I have learned some new facts this last thread . To update:- (1) I heard from SLINGSHOT . They told me to change my settings in SPAM & VIRUS on their site and told me how to get there . The strange thing is that it was set to note SPAM and send it to my SPAM folder - this never happened -my SPAM folder remained empty (well almost) nothing from PCWorld - but they have told me to change the setting, so it simply mark messages as suspicious and continues sending them to my INBOX . I have done that . (2) I was puzzled by getting gmail - I thought I needed another icon and another means of getting OUTLOOK EXPRESS to handle it . Now I realise it all goes to the same INBOX anyway - after all I don't have a different post box outside the house for each person who sends me mail!! Now I would like some more comments please from all you good folks to see if the system for notifying me now works . I have already had my chocolate fish . Tom
