519578 2007-01-30 00:01:00 Just looking through Today's DSE Cateloge that came in the mail.

They certainly have been quick in embracing the new OS, all advertised PC's come preinstalled with some version of it, plus the whole thing is full of ads on how Vista is so great.

Even Dell has TV ads saying that Vista is now on there computers.

519579 2007-01-30 00:02:00 Not at all im not confusing wimbledon with wellington . Wellington is also the name of a womble and as i said you are a womble .

A cutting reposte

Anyway; "from wellington"

A typo then, or having a little trouble with English?

519580 2007-01-30 01:54:00 DSE in Wellington had a man from Microsoft on site to answer questions about Vista  . I even had a bit of a play (yes, I can now tell you its very Windows like :D )

They were not giving away any freebies :(

519582 2007-01-30 02:36:00 Heres a catch that will annoy those who went and bought a upgrade version of vista.

You can only install vista if you have xp loaded you cannot do a clean install.

Only if you buy an OEM version of vista can you do a complete install, and if you do have to reformat and reformat only then you have to ring microsoft to get the key activated again.

519584 2007-01-30 04:11:00 Hrm, just went down to the local supermarket and purchased myself a copy of the latest edition of PC World magazine - and an ice cream, of course.

Having looked through the magazine I find that it praises Vista endlessly, failing to mention anything negative about the system - such as driver revocation. I see a few things mentioned in there, but no major story/article.

Is this just a lack of people-who-use-alternative-desktops in the PC World headquarters or something more sinister?

Can we get a Unix section in the magazine? :)

/me wants someone to review Beryl!

...Microsoft all but eliminated mainstream software competition. As a result, Microsoft became the primary source of advertising revenue for mainstream publications. You don't bite the hand that feeds you. So instead of publishing issues calling for a worldwide boycott of Vista because it focuses more on what you can't do than what you can do, you see special editions praising Vista as the greatest advancement in computing since Windows 95.

That is a copy of a copy that I found on the page from the generic linux type dude at PCWorld. Though the words aren't his.
