727372 2008-12-10 06:26:00 Further to my earlier queries re Skype and my friend not able to see people to whom she is speaking - she is using Clearnet PDQ Launch - I am now wondering if the issue is actually the speed of the download/upload with what is essentially an entry level Broadband..... Has anyone else experienced any hassles with this please?

TIA

727375 2008-12-10 08:21:00 No, Skype uses a variant of the iLBC codec, technically Skype could work over a dial-up speed connection (Mind you full-duplex would help).

Even *if* she's on 256k down & 128k up, she'll still get the occasional image, albeit very slow to update and potentially horrible quality, but an image none the less :)

727376 2008-12-11 20:23:00 My friend has seen her daughter using Skype maybe four or five times, but recently nothing....

So if it is not the download/upload speed - any other suggestions please?

The shop where she bought it is less than helpful!

TIA

 Did she pay for Skype?

It almost seems like there's something about the Laptop Video that doesn't like Skype.

Have you tried uninstalling Skype - cleaning up the Registry - And then reinstalling it?

If you try that you'll find a message that Skype is sorry to see you go and would you like a repair done. You could try the repair, but I had to completely uninstall it and reinstall to get it working. Don't know what was wrong in my case either.

727378 2008-12-11 20:44:00 No, she did not pay for Skype and the computer shop has already done the uninstall/reinstall bit....

Cleaning up the Registry? How please?

727379 2008-12-11 21:02:00 get CCleaner GameJunkie (72)
727380 2008-12-11 23:17:00 Install it-then Uninstall it with Revo Uninstaller.
This will fully remove all traces of the program.
Then, reinstall
