| 520371 | 2007-01-29 08:04:00 | I'm wanting to install another telephone jack. We currently have one jack which has a 'M' on the front of the jack which makes me think it's an older style 3 wire jack. The instructions on the telecom site for installing a new jack are for the new standard 2 wire jack, and state that if you want to install a 2 wire jack you must convert all jacks to the new 2 wire system. Does anyone know what the process is in converting the three wire jacks to 2 wire jacks is? Is it difficult? Is there instructions anywhere online? (I couldn;t find any) or should I just ring a telecom serviceman to install it? As always thanks heaps for any help, much appreciated. M. |

Can you point me to those instructions? I'm curious to know how to wire in the new jackpoint to the existing phone system. Is it all wired in series & you just run the cable to the nearest existing jackpoint? |

I think I might also call someone who knows what they are doing as I'm struggling to follow the instructions... The instructions I was looking at were on the telecom site and were called... Installing phones and jackpoints a step by step guide... It was a pdf file. Thanks for the reply with the other link too Terry. Cheers. M. |

Well, the wires wont go in on their own, or just by an act of faith, no matter how much one believes they may :) So, a tool has to be used, let's call it....an 'insertion tool'......;) The cheap plastic ones are good enough for a one off job. |

| 520377 | 2007-01-29 21:55:00 | You can get away without changing existing 3wire outlets - just make sure you connect to the correct pins on the existing jack-points [2 & 5] If you have broadband - I would save my money and buy a splitter so you can get rid of your in-line filters. Also, buy a cheap plastic tool if need be - DON'T use a screwdriver as I have seen some butchers do ! |
