728939 2008-12-14 06:02:00 bare with me cause i dont know the correct terminology for everything hence my reason for asking on here lol anyway he have the new case trying to put my motherboard in and the heat sink that screws into the cpu and then into the case, cant screw in, im told it needs a riser or something like that to raise it up so the screws will reach? can anyone tell me the correct name for these and where i might get some? hopefully you know what i mean, can get a pic of the one i have here thats too small if that helps? the holes in the motherboard dont match up with the heatsink either, and the current risers on the motherboard arent able to be taken out :( thanks lisamarie01 (6731)
728940 2008-12-14 06:06:00 Spacers, (which should come with the case, or maybe screwed inside the case already)

These HAVE to go in first (in the holes to match the holes on the mobo), before you put the mobo in.

Otherwise it'll short the mobo on the case.

And byebye system

DONT forget to put the I/O back panel in BEFORE you put the mobo in as well. You wont get it in after

You're not trying to install the bigger motherboard (ATX) into a smaller case (MATX) are you??

Because it wont fit

What's the brand / model of the mobo (it should be etched on it)

728941 2008-12-14 06:13:00 hi, the ones that are already screwed into the case are fine for the motherboard itself but the ones for the heatsink/fan dont match up, so we are hopeing to make new holes in the case and we need the risers/spacers to help it reach the screws as it just comes out of the fan/heatsink a tiny bit and doesnt reach through the case hence my problem, thanks lisamarie01 (6731)
728942 2008-12-14 06:19:00 Umm you dont have to make or match up the holes for the heatsink / CPU

What you need, for this is on the mobo, not the case itself

Wasnt the heatsink / CPU on the motherboard already, when you took it out of the old case??

Or did someone pull it to bits then put it back on the mobo?

If the heatsink / CPU are not on the mobo now, its better to put BOTH on the mobo. Before you install the mobo. It makes things a LOT easier

Heatsinks for CPUs do NOT screw into cases.

728944 2008-12-14 07:40:00 I think you might need to post a pic on here gary67 (56)
728945 2008-12-14 07:42:00 Depending on what your Heatsink is the holes , clips should all be there - there are some third party Heatsinks that have their own cradles, and the original ones have been removed - and some of these do have screws to hold them in place, but they are rare, most use a clip arrangement.

Maybe if you are able, like you mentioned in the original post - put up a picture of what you have - may be easier to "see" the problem.

728946 2008-12-14 08:13:00 thanks for the info, apparently its not the heat sink that screws in its the fan that sits on top of the heatsink that screws in and that holds heatsink there as well. my computer is an Hp Compaq business desktop dx2200 micro tower, its a 2.8ghz i got a pic of the new case what it looks like but haven't been able to get one of the old motherboard as my camera battery is charging plus its in the computer im currently running will try and get a pic soon tho and put it up.
thanks
