728571 2008-12-13 07:28:00 I'm getting about 6 spam emails a day apparently from my own email address, most have similar subject "Your order status" etc. Never open any of these. Run Zone Alarm, AVG Free, Spybot & make frequent scans. Am I a zombie & any ideas how I can stop please ? All end up in the spam box.
Cheers:

728572 2008-12-13 07:30:00 What email Client are you using?

Outlook or Outlook express, I recommend SpamFighter (http://www.spamfighter.com). It's free and it works.

728573 2008-12-13 07:33:00 Thanks. Use Outlook Express. Spam filter is by Xtra Webmail ganda (10870)
728574 2008-12-13 07:35:00 Eeeew (at the xtra filter). Try SpamFighter, and if that doesn't work, switch clients.

I use xtra mail too, and I have to say that the spamfilter is useless. It blocks certain emails but lets the other spam in even though it's from the same address.

728575 2008-12-13 07:49:00 what about Gmail?? GameJunkie (72)
728576 2008-12-13 07:54:00 no point changing clients unless you HAVE to.. Its a last minute suggestion. mabix (10146)
728577 2008-12-13 08:11:00 I use Mailwasher (http://www.mailwasher.net/) - have done for years - it looks at your incoming mail - shows you whats there - then you decide if its spam or to let it through. It is manual but that way you decide whats spam and whats genuine mail - when you finish ticking the junk, hit process mail - it bounces the junk back to the sender and lets through the ones you said are OK. wainuitech (129)
728578 2008-12-13 08:54:00 FWIW make the effort to change your primary email address to a Gmail one, it has the best spam filtering.
You can still retrieve and send emails using an email client, I use Thunderbird for this - it was much smarter at detecting spam than microsofts clients and I doubt anything has changed in that department recently.
An added bonus to steadily changing to webmail now is that in the future when you get tired of Xtra you can change your ISP without having to worry about your emails

Too much hassel if you can install a client that can do the job just as well as Gmail, if not better

728580 2008-12-14 08:18:00 You're ONLY getting 6 spam emails a day??

Some people would be glad to be so low.
Set up a filter in OE ( can you filter in OE?) and tell it to delete all mail coming in from yourself.

I assume you never send genuine e-mails to yourself?
