521020 2007-01-31 03:59:00 Trying to find something really neat for a 9 year old girl. Any ideas?

Something fairly cheap, say under $20.

I personally like the look of this stuff: www.thinkgeek.com

But I can't really tell how much you get, and I would also prefer to be able to get it in NZ.

But that's me. I assume a kid would like that. I mean, anyone human would have a hard time resisting it, heheh.... Or is that just me.

Heck, I would get heaps of it if I could find it cheap enough.

Oh yeah, and I'm sorta wanting it to be something... not very ordinary. Slighlty crazy perhaps.

Like that putty... mmmm, putty.. *distractedly gazes at the goo picture*

521022 2007-01-31 04:31:00 Overseas, it's " the thinking person's putty."

Here. " the thinking person " checks whether there's a version available at The Warehouse - or wherever.

Yes, it does look like fun.

www.vuw.ac.nz

You can make this stuff........... apparently

and you can usually get these sort of things at educational shops and sometimes the warehouse or $2 shops.....

This is from our beloved Google.......

Our centre has discovered by accident something we now call Flubber. It is approx 5-6 parts PVA and 1 part paint. Mix like crazy with the end of a paint brush. It thickens. Is quite sticky to start with, but the more you knead it the better it gets. This stuff is a little bit like the silly putty we used to get when we were younger. Try stretching it to see how far it will reach without touching the ground. Stretch it out and blow bubbles through it. This stuff does not like wool jerseys or carpet but will stick to itself if it gets on anything else.

And its 1/5 pound tins . . . . Yeah, but to me, 1/5 pound doesn't mean much . And if it's 100g, then that still doesn't mean much . I'm pretty hopeless, I would need to pick it up and look at it myself .

But yeh, I think I will try and get lots of goo stuff . Lots and lots of it .

Now, what shall I get her?

That stuff from ThinkGeek can shatter! Betcha I can't find stuff like that in NZ!

But any putty stuff will do I guess . I will hunt around .

521025 2007-01-31 05:19:00 Hmmm

Flubber "does not like wool jerseys or carpet..."

How well do you get on with the parents of this 9 year-old? Do you wish to remain friends?

(Reminds me of the Christmas I dissuaded Mr Laura from giving a toy which emitted an ear-splitting siren - choice of fire, police or ambulance.
We kept it ourselves for visiting kids. Amazing how soon he had hidden it...)

Read the fine print maybe? :p

Having kids we have had this product or similar ones..............
and when they new they great........keep them clean and you have mass's of fun. but once they start to attract fluff and dirt, dust and what not........... its almost a no go to get clean........ i usually end up chucking the product out.
