522358 2007-03-03 08:27:00 Yep, here's further proof of the Global Warming in action! :illogical

If we get excessive amounts of cold air blowing up from the Antarctic for long periods of time, as we certainly did over December/January, then that implies an equal amount of air from elsewhere must flow into Antarctica.......Agree?

By definition that air must have come from regions warmer than Antarctica, hence whilst we got colder, Antarctica got warmer.

That suggests to me,that you are of the opinion that there is one lot of air that goes around and around,as apposed to being generated by conditions.
I don't like that opinion at all.

522361 2007-03-03 19:55:00 BREAKING NEWS - Global warming hit Welllington yesterday and local residents said seeing the temperature over 20 degrees had given them an inkling of what Fat Al was on about. "I've let off a bit of methane to see if we can make 22 tomorrow" said a local resident "but I'm worried that Greenpeace is on to me so I've had to go underground". Twelvevolts (5457)

I agree Terry, they're called convectional currents and were around a long time before the Motor Car or the Industrial Revolution. ;)

They even made a considerable contribution to the Trade Winds. ;)

I wonder what Fart Tax our Government would place on a Dinosaur?

NIWA data confirms that NZ is not warming

“New Zealand may be no warmer in 2006 than it was in 1800. According to temperature records from NIWA, New Zealand has not experienced significant warming in the last 50 years.

i believe it's called GLOBAL warming, and an increase of the global average by several degrees has been observed. there is other evidence too, along with rapidly shrinking glaciers, ice sheets and permafrost (perhaps to be renamed to temporfrost?) plus ice core records aslo showing the previous cycles of warming and cooling.

y2k was BS, but hindsight is always perfect. i think a global stocking up on emergency crap which we should do anyway, considering we mostly live in areas of extreme snow/flooding, coastlines, fault lines, active volcanic fields and any combination thereof.

for the record, everyone should've know y2k was bull****, just set ur pc clock to 23:59 on 31/12/99 and see what happens.:groan:

bird flu on the other hand is still an issue, but as per usual the media blew it out of proportion.

so i'll repeat my earlier post: if we don't act and need to, we're screwed, but if we do act and don't need to, well boo-hoo we improved air quality.

522364 2007-03-04 20:23:00 Y2K was not bs. Lots of mission critical systems had to be checked. You would have all complained if the banking systems were out for a week. dolby digital (5073)

and they were checked, so why all the fuss was/is beyond me

This paper re-enforces the fact that the warming in the last 20 to 40 years can't have been caused by solar activity

At the same time, the warm air to which you refer must have come from somewhere, that would probably be the Arctic,so that should have equalled things out.
