| 521521 | 2007-02-05 20:25:00 | OK, OK. 1) A Mac is no different to a PC. In fact, your right to say its just another computer in pretty plastic. However, if you’re a new or home computer user, of course you are going to take the mac. On first sight, it looks easy,There’s no box, it’s fairly silent and it hs the camera on top, and its shiny. 2) A Mac is not virus-less, or malware-less, as with any computer, but it’s built on UNIX, so at least it’s far more secure than Windows. Heck, it’s even safe enough to come with the firewall off by default. 3) A Mac may cost alot more than a PC, but if you bought a similar speced Dell and added on the cost for the applications that could match iLife, a webcam as good as an iSight, and the software cupons that will give discounts off the next four releases of the operating system, it adds up to be +/- $50. 4) Metla, you probarbly haven’t touched a mac in your 1000 year old life, so in the words of Richard Prior to Bill Cosby, Have a coke and a smile and just shut up. 5) Apple perfer to control Mac Hardware because it stops them from getting nto the mess that Microsoft have got themselves into. There is an Apple Product to match every piece of hardware, and usually the Apple product will end up doing the job almost as good as the pro stuff. Plus, Apple know that installing that certian hardware won’t screw up your new Mac. 6) At the end of the day, it comes down to what you perfer- reliablity or compatibility. For most people a Mac would suit fine. Most big applications are avaliable for Mac. I continuously see Schools moving from Windows to Mac as it means they don’t need to have a support technicain on call all day. But most people who are more advanced with computers will go Windows- unless they like Macs And dont forget, Steve was the original designer of Windows. |

I see them moving the other way. And Apple used to give schools a HUGE discount to purchase Macs. That's why schools had Apples for such a long time. |

The children do all the video work at the school productions and post video work afterwards. A half decent job they do Personally I would like to teach children both Win and OSX. Throw in a few flavours of Linux as well if you like. There is nothing wrong with a Mac so long as you can run applications that you want to run. There is nothing wrong with an IBM compatible so long as you can run the applications you want to run. You can (of course) multiboot several operating systems on one box if IBM compatible. If my memory serves me correctly a person did this some years ago without the use of third party software and I think it was some 24 operating systems. I think Acronis advertise a product that will allow up to 100 operating systems. I was dragged, kicking and screaming, into Windows 3.11 from MSDOS 6 as a work issue. At that time I knew what the Autoexec.bat and Config.sys files did. I also found that workers became less productive as they spent a fair amount of time shifting windows about and did not know that Windows was a multitasking system. Point here is teach the children to research. You ( and your significant other ) have a duty to the child(ren) you have brought into the world. Don't force them to buy a Holden because you have one for example. My Mother was a Baptist and my Father was a Catholic. Myself and siblings went to an Anglican church and we were MADE to go to Sunday school whether we liked this or not. This being a compromise I think. Later Mum and Dad said I could choose my own church to go to. Eventually your children will leave the nest. They will have choices whether you like or not. Their choice of software is not all that important so long as they can run it on whatever platform. |
