| 522318 | 2007-02-04 23:20:00 | Careful Metla, I once hugged a tree to death.:angry To go off topic a bit.... Few months ago we knocked down some 70 foot high trees on a building site with a digger, then chopped them up with chainsaws and carted away the timber 3 days later a letter apears in the local rag, Complaining about the savage way we went about removing the trees, a couple of phone calls were made, Project manbager, our office, Council, etc etc. Complaints were laid. When it came time to do the next few we were issued with an instruction to hire in an arborist to fell the trees at a cost of $6000. Ahem. Then we chopped them up with chainsaws and carted them away.:waughh::annoyed: |

| 522322 | 2007-02-13 05:52:00 | Global warming quite possibly. But anthropogenic global warming it is most definitely not. There is nothing we can do about it, and nothing we should be doing about it. But, by all means, we should be more responsible with our use of the planet's finite resources and limit our destruction and pollution of the environment. But these issues (pollution etc) are completely different from global warming and should not be confused. Oh - and something else. I've lost count of how many times have I heard someone say something along the lines of (like Helen Clark did today) "all the scientists concur that man is responsible for global warming". This is simply not true. All the scientists do not concur. There is, in fact, great debate in the scientific community. So why are the world's politicians jumping on the global warming bandwagon? Something else to consider. There is no global warming in New Zealand. Temperatures are not increasing here. Strange that. We are about to spend an awful lot of money on a problem that doesn't exist. A few will be getting rich from the global warming "industry", while the rest of pay through our noses in extra taxes that this government will inevitably dream up. |

| 522323 | 2007-02-13 06:01:00 | We know that reducing CO2 emissions, whether from our cars or volcanoes, will slow the rate of temperature gain....We can reduce our own carbon dioxide emissions, which are known to be a major source (those jumps in CO2/time graphs around the industrial revolution aren't just chance). Reducing CO2 won't have any effect. In fact, CO2 is not a greenhouse gas worthy of concern. Yet we are led to believe otherwise. This will end up costing industry billions, all for nothing. People need to wake up and realise that we need to take immediate action to avoid exacerbating this problem. See my previous post. There are other problems we should be turning our attention to (like pollution and overpopulation). People need to wake and stop believing all the garbage fed to us by politicians. A few will be getting rich from the global warming "industry", And how do you know there is no global warming caused by human actions . The anti brigade apply spin, just like the pro brigade . Most scientists agree that there is some (Just because 10 scientists say its not happening doesn't mean that it isn't) . To what degree is not known . The message is to take better care of our planet . |

| 522327 | 2007-02-13 11:11:00 | ok, for like the 5th time, lets say you smell smoke coming from your kitchen, do you investigate, or assume it's ok because you're sure you remembered to turn the oven off . ? sure it may just be the neighbours house, or a flatmate/spouse/child's attempt at toast, but if your kitchen IS infact on fire you'll feel like a right idiot for not checking - regardless of what started it same applies for engine trouble, you see steam coming from under the bonnet, do you stop and check, or assume it's something else or "she'll be right" whale populations fell, but whalers said it wasn't their fault . whale populations are still dangerously low almost a century later, but are improving (even if only to be eaten - uh, i mean beaten - back down again by the japanese) while driving you see a ball bounce across the road ahead, do you slow anticipating a child to follow it, or plow on through . even if the kid doesn't appear, you still avoided that speeding ticket:rolleyes: my point: failing to act is much MUCH worse than lowering pollution only for the benefit of our health |
