728686 2008-12-15 04:52:00 look at the pics
i have disabled it, but it still shows up in TCP/IP settings
Nothing is wrong here.
It's like disabling the breaks in your car, and when you get in you still see the break peddle. Try it out at 100km.

728687 2008-12-15 05:17:00 but shouldn't it not be there?
i have restarted my pc countless times....you'd think that it wouldn't be there if its not enabled.
and it's the fact that it is still there...as something is assigning me the correct ip addy...even if i still have to manually re-enter the ip settings myself to be able to get the internet.
something, somewhere is enabling it......it is this that i need to find and stop...as i cant connect to my bro's house while it is on

728688 2008-12-15 05:51:00 In a command prompt type:

ipconfig /release
then

ipconfig /renew
if the second command takes ages, or does not work, (you may get a 169... address) you have the settings you want.

728689 2008-12-15 06:47:00 Do an "ipconfig" command to identify the names of your lan connections and use them instead of the "Local Area Connection1" and "Local Area Connection2" I've used below.

Then create a batch file as follows:-

netsh interface ip set address name="Local Area Connection1" dhcp
pause
netsh interface ip set dns name="Local Area Connection1" dhcp
pause
netsh interface ip set dns name="Local Area Connection2" static 999.111.222.333 255.255.255.0
pause
exit

This should set your LAN 1 connection to Telstra to DHCP and your LAN 2 connection to your brother's place to a static address which you will have to decide on with him. I've used 999.111.222.333 above.

There are commands to set the gateway and gateway metric on "Local Area Connection2" but you may not need them.

Put the pause command in after each line so you can see which line causes problems (if any).

The next bit is to make the computer use the correct LAN port and I'm not sure about the "nice" way of doing that.

The "ugly" way is to pull out the unwanted ethernet cable.

Unfortunately, I don't have a dual port machine to experiment on.
