728676 2008-12-14 06:39:00 Certain Programs don't use DHCP. DHCP is a platform that essentially hands out IP Addresses until there are none left. So, with DHCP enabled, Windows is given an IP Address from the Router, and all the default settings (like gateway, DNS, subnet, etc.) Therefore DHCP is a windows service, and not a program.

If you disable the DHCP service, then DHCP can't be used across the entire computer.

728678 2008-12-14 07:49:00 You got it :)

If you want to do this on any other computer, then just disable the DHCP service and give them a static IP Address.

however disabling DHCP in Windows won't be using it to maximum effect- If it's not disabled in the modem, then any computer that plugs and has DHCP enabled will get an IP Address.

You can disable DHCP in the modem settings on the Web UI

best of luck.

728680 2008-12-14 08:07:00 Why are you manually assigning an address of 121.73.35.107 ?

Has Telstra assigned this to you?

728683 2008-12-14 09:29:00 I vote for Chill's solution - have you tried that yet? That gives you the best of both worlds - uses DHCP at your house by default, but when there's no DHCP server present, it falls back to the address that works at your brother's...

Set the static IP in the Alernate configuration under your TCP/IP properties. This way if DHCP fails (coz you're at your rothers house) then it'll use your predecined IP :)
