Consume untill there is nothing left, Then die.

522299 2007-02-04 00:12:00 Please explain the hidden agenda here. I'm all ears.

Although they there are scientists who no doubt need to keep their funders happy, there are many who are totally indendent.

You cannot deny the world is warming up (unless you don't believe the figures of course). There could be a number of factors for this, one is CO2 emissions.
Go read the book.
I don't deny the world is warming up and I do think we should do all we can to reduce pollution but I have my doubts as to how much humans are responsible. As Metla said a volcano fart does way more than humans by avast degree. The Kyoto agreement Is a total crock dreamt up just to make someone rich but I haven't figured out who yet.

522300 2007-02-04 00:42:00 My solution and one that no one has ever metenioned it is that WE HAVE to start reducing the world population which is still growing. My plan would be to limit every women in the world to two children only. Once she has had two children then she will have to be compulsoraily steriled. (drastic I know)

And that will never happen until its compulsory.
They all, including "greenies" keep on breeding. Its always the Indians or Chinese fault.

522302 2007-02-04 00:52:00 As far as I can see, global warming, and global cooling go in cycles . This has happened for millions of years, and will continue in to the future . Man only helps it along, but I don't think to the extreme they are going on about .

I think, and this is only my opinion, the so called "experts", cough cough, of which there seem to be so many crawling out of the woodwork for their 15 minutes of fame, are doing the world more harm than good . Anyone notice how quickly the political parties grab on to something when they think it will do them good in the polls .

As an aside, anyone remember the "bird flu" :o There were people running around spouting how the world would end, blah blah blah . It seems to me that in the case of "bird flu" anyone with a white coat and stethescope, was an expert . NOT .

Oh well rant over now I will crawl back into my hole now and hide from global warming .

.

Not enough time, sorry. Need to go and waste some resources so that the companies that supply them can make some money.

522304 2007-02-04 01:22:00 now i don't think humans are going to be wiped off the face of the earth by climate change: we've already survived one ice age and people live in the sahara, and alaska, fine. we've got technology on our side, as any anthropologist will tell you, and well populations may well fall, it'll just be natural selection picking off third world countries and the poor in general.

Humans are going to be wiped out by either some cosmic event, like an asteroid, or ourselves, like the inevitable wars sprouting as people compete over limited resources.

and i agree with the "child quota". they have it in china, but all it means is that if a child is retarded/female the parents dump it and pretend it never happened.
scientists say that by mid october 2006 we had consumed more resources in those 10 months than the earth could naturally replace in that year. we have been living in credit like this since the 80's, and every year we surpass that point ever earlier. americans, australians, canadians, and the british (i think in that order) are the worst, consuming the most resources per person.

522305 2007-02-04 01:37:00 The interesting thing about global warning (warming) theory is that most scientists are sceptics, unless there is reasonable proof of a theory, it is not proven. From information I have received, the scientific community accept it but they don't agree to what degree it will effect the worlds climate. dolby digital (5073)
522306 2007-02-04 02:02:00 The world is heating up. Whether or not it is our fault, this is clear from the numbers. We know from past measurements of warmer periods that increased temperature will have a number of negative impacts, decreasing the amount of land available. We know that reducing CO2 emissions, whether from our cars or volcanoes, will slow the rate of temperature gain.

Whether or not you choose to blind yourself to reality or attempt to place blame elsewhere it is a fact that the world temperature is rising and that this will cause major changes. At the rate it is rising, I feel we should at least give ourselves time to evaluate the full range of effects a global temperature rise could have and prepare for them. We cannot easily control the emissions of volcanoes or CO2 being released from the ocean. We can reduce our own carbon dioxide emissions, which are known to be a major source (those jumps in CO2/time graphs around the industrial revolution aren't just chance).

People need to wake up and realise that we need to take immediate action to avoid exacerbating this problem. Forget blame or reasons, the world is changing and we need to work out how to minimise the damage that always comes (at least initially) with major changes. The first step is to accept that we have an impact on the whole world and to make sure we don't abuse that power.

I'm not talking about "custody of nature" and those sorts of issues as their value is not easy to measure. I'm talking about the wellbeing of society for future generations, and if you don't care about that then you deserve to have your carbon join the ocean bed's reserves.

522307 2007-02-04 02:07:00 Jeeez, guys, give me a break, I’m still getting over the Y2K bug and the Bird Flu Pandemic . :groan:

Actually, I was talking to a Global Warming follower the other day and he was rabbiting on about icebergs off Dunedin . I put it to him that icebergs have been around for millions of years and the earth is actually cooling . This is why they are coming so far north before they melt .

I think he’s still pondering the proposition . ;)

Anyway, sitting here in February with a jersey on gives further strength to my argument! :2cents:
