521399 2007-02-01 21:45:00 I think you'll find in their rules they explicitly say that they randomly check the registration details.

They do have their "Authentication" system whereby you can have the details checked.

I think they are trying to protect buyers. A seller who has given false information could be a scam artist.

But I'm surprised that they would suspend an account because they couldn't get an answer from an engaged line. :D

521400 2007-02-01 22:42:00 Come to think of it ,it's not a bad idea.
Their view: "No reply to his phone. We want to talk to him. Close his account and he will contact us. Problem solved"

Had a simliar experience with Vatsim. They e-mailed me. It bounced. I had changed ISP's. I was suspended. Didn't take me very long to get in touch with them.

Judge for yourself

Hi Alan,

It has been brought to our attention that your listing for Two Person Inflatable Ski Biscuit (#84988882) is listed in the wrong category . To help people find what they're looking for it's important that items are listed in the correct categories .

You placed your listing in /Sports/Waterskiing-wake-boarding/Other and we have moved it to /Sports/Waterskiing-wake-boarding/Ski-biscuits .

In future, please ensure you list your items in the most appropriate category . Members who intentionally list items in incorrect categories, on a regular basis, may have their membership suspended .

Thanks for your cooperation .

Hows that heavey handed, or did you mean heavy? I think that is quite a well written email . They obviously get lots of people incorrectly listing items for a benefit of more visitors . Personally I get annoyed seeing things in wrong categories, and will often report users to correct their listing .

521403 2007-02-02 12:31:00 Its heavy handed by implying that he intentionally listed it in the wrong catagory when its clear that this wasn't the case.

Rogerp.. I commend you for your actions, I'm curious though what you think about those who fill their listings with keywords with little relevance to the stuff they are actually trying to sell?

I agree with them. Im sick of categories being swamped with listings in the wrong categories. If Im looking for remotes I dont want to have to troll through masses of listings for batteries & chargers.

However when I complained about this, nothing happened to that trader, he
still swamp multiple categories with items in the wrong catergories.
Could it be because he has the special "trademe Store" listing??

Hardly . They are very politely drawing to his attention the fact that he didn't use the correct classification . They are politely asking him to not do it again . " . . . please . . . " .

Then they tell him what they might do to people who do it "intentionally . . . on a regular basis" .

I wish everyone here was as polite . ;)

When I originally listed it I could find a similar item so listed it as "other" Hell, tell me how this was going to "double the sale price" I thought it was a minor transindegression to threaten I would be "banned" Perehaps they thought it would give me the taste for scamming people

521407 2007-02-03 14:52:00 yea i agree with everyone else. that was a polite email.

i also report listings in wrong categories. it wastes buyers time and often hurts the seller too. the deliberate "mislists" really piss me off though, and dickheads who put every word under the sun at the bottom of their auction

Using keywords is really tricking users when they do a search for a product, so that the listing appears in as many search results as possible. Trade me don't allow people to insert lots of keywords, but I don't think they have any software to find these users automatically.. Trademe should have some form of grammer checking software, that is able to check whether people are inserting keywords or proper sentances. Some search engines can can now do this so the technology exists.
