Yup. AFAIK. How much money you have in your bank a/c will be accessible under the Visa debit card. Be it yourself or a scammer via the net or in person locally or internationally or if your computer got hijacked or if you used a internet cafe.

The only thing with the NZ Post I don't like is that it expires and the cash I think is not refundable. Its more for gifts when pple can go out and spend that on something for themselves. I think it will be useful in having a hybrid account when its does not expire, reloadable, refundable and how you can set the credit limit as you please at any time.... Maybe have one that allows you to reset the credit number as well and its valid for 24hr only, I think there is one example of that overseas.

$20 for a Westpac card. For a bit more you can get 6-8 weeks interest free, you can join a points system for rewards or cashback using the bank's money instead of your own. A plain EFTPOS card fulfils nearly the same role, with Cirrus or Maestro, you get a EFTPOS card in NZ or internet banking, go into a branch and do a free payment to someone, if you are overseas you can use your ordinary EFTPOS card in withdrawing or even use it over the counter. The only thing you cannot do is buy online other than sending a bank draft or a telegraphic transfer and still have the protection.

Edit
What you can do is with the Westpac. Have 2 accounts and the one that is linked to VISA, put v little in it .... $20 is not too bad, when a avg c/c can be $30-50 a yr or each non reloadbale NZ Post is $5.

521308 2007-02-01 10:53:00 It seems nearly all the posts here have completely misunderstood what this card is. I have one of these, in fact I switched my bank accounts to Westpac because I wanted the card. The Visa Debit-plus card can be used just like a credit card, including online shopping, but rather than having a line of credit the money comes from your bank account. I got it because I want to be able to shop online but could never trust myself with a line of credit, however careful I normally would be with it.

The card costs about $10 per year (I could be wrong on this amount), is connected to your current account and simply acts as a useful transaction method. It has the same fraud protection and liability terms as a standard credit card and has no per-transaction fees other than account fees (none for an Elect account) and currency exchange fees (currently 2% I believe).

The Prezzy Card is also good but at a cost of $5 per card you have to use them pretty occasionally or buy well stocked cards to make the expense worthwhile. It does have the advantage of being anonymous and therefore useful for purchasing from places you don't trust with your real identity.

This card is really useful and I enjoy having it. I can finally buy stuff such as e-books from online stores but don't have to have the risk of debt hanging over me.
