728845 2008-12-14 01:14:00 Hi Friends,
I have currently joined the TelstraClear broadband scheme . I have opted for a Dynalink RTA1025W ADSL2+ Wireless 4 port Modem Router . I did all the installation as required and got connected to the net wirelessly . The next day I put my system on I do get connected to the modem wirelessly but cannot browse the net . Internet Explorer page does not connect and gives the error "Unable to display webpage" . The connection icon on the right hand bottom of the screen shows "Connected with Limited acces" . Can someone please tell why am I unable to connect to the internet directly when I put my laptop on (the modem is alraedy on) .
I do get connected (wireless) once in a while after disconnecting and trying to reconnect 20 times .
I'm running Vista on my laptop .
Hope someone can help .
Thanks
Aspi .

728846 2008-12-14 01:40:00 Welcome to PF1 - in Vista - Make sure the network discovery is turned on, Click start - in the search type in network - network and sharing should appear open it or Follow instructions here (www.home-network-help.com) - enable it other wise that can cause all sorts of trouble.
Also when connecting wireless - I have found that the LAN connects right away but sometimes it can take up to 10 minutes to get an actual Internet connection, while wired connects up almost instantly.

What you should also try is on the router - disable any security -then on the Laptop, down the bottom right will be the network connections, double click it to open - make sure your wireless is showing and it can connect with no security, and the Internet works OK.

Disconnect, go back into the router via a wired connection and re enable the security, next try connecting again as before - this time you should be prompted for a password that you put in the router-make sure it connects and see if the Internet is working. You will know if it is because the connection will have a small picture of the world.

It can also differ if you are using a third party app to connect to the wireless - Personally I find the Windows one more user friendly.

Thanks very much for the respone. I have checked the Network Discovery and it is turned 'ON' already. I wll try the other method you have recommended and check.

728848 2008-12-14 21:57:00 The limited connection message means you are not getting a valid IP no . Usually, the IP no . is supplied from the router's DHCP server . You need to check whether that is enabled in the router .

You could also check that you have the DHCP client running as a service on your machine . It normally is started but it does no harm to check if you still have problems .
