2007-02-02 08:43:00 | I'm back using my old name - hopefully I will get everybody as confused as I am soon. But this is my latest problem. Somebody in my family found the old cartridge from a Sega game my wife enjoyed playing years ago. Now we had its name SINBAD MYSTERY which we had forgotten. I had heard there were sites where we could download copies of the old games that would run on our new computers. Found one and downloaded the file Sinbad Mystery_(SC-3000).zip I thought unzipping would be a simple job but my computer does not recognise the file. Any advice ? Tom

2007-02-02 08:47:00 | you probably need a sega emulator. you might be able to find what you need at the site you got the download file from. Are you saying it wont unzip?

You have told me where I went wrong. It did in fact unzip. But of course it was the unzipped file I couldn't access. Now I realise I need an emulator. Well I have found one and down loaded it - you learn a little something every day. I don't know if I have the best one for the job - I'm tired, fed up with me so going to bed. Still haven't completely read my PCWorld so something to read to keep my mind off computers! Tom |

2007-02-02 09:17:00 | I remember this one (Sinbad) Beware of rolling rocks. The Sega I had came with a Basic interpreter and a tape drive. I bought a modem 75/300 to connect to Fidonet. Later I upgraded to what was called a "Super Control Station". This had a floppy drive.

2007-02-04 21:30:00 | hehe, the memories this brings back... Yes Dannz. Memories. Well I now have the game Sinbad Mystery running on both my laptop and desktop. Unfortunately my wife's old 486 will not even look at it but that's life for you. She has already driven me daft by bashing way past the score I made when trying it out and now I hear the irritating but catchy tune pounding out just when I want to use the desktop. It has made me realise again just how good some of the old games really were. It is 2D but looks 3D by careful artwork. It's easy to learn, easy to use, simple commands, all the things a good game should be. So many of the shoot em up, or make your way through the haunted jungle just leave me cold - I fail to understand what makes people attracted to them. It reminds me of the time when I worked as a designer for Mattel the toy people. We had tremendous fun designing toys - much more fun than the kids ever could playing with them. I often thought we should put some sort of a product on the market that allowed kids to use their imagination and design their own toys -I suppose Meccano was that. Ah almost forgot - the emulator I found best to use is FUSION as recommended in this thread. Tom

2007-02-05 00:41:00 | Simple games are great. The other day, I was at an impromptu battlefield LAN & everyone left their battlefield game to crowd around my friend as he smashed the bejeweled high score :p | Greven (91) | |
