521653 2007-02-01 08:43:00 Hi, I have a Nokia 6230, everything works but I get no ringing tone or a message received tone .

However, voice calls works - I can speak (I think) and I can listen . It vibrates . There are keypad tones though .

The alarm does not ring either . It vibrates .

I have pressed the power button lightly and chose "genera" or "outdoor" still no go .

Thanks in advance

521654 2007-02-01 09:00:00 Yes, my mobile does not ring or beep.
It just sits there.
Unless of course someone rings or texts me.
Perhaps what you are lacking is somebody to ring or text you?
That's sad............

Very funny.
The phone does not ring at all, its like the ringing speaker is broken. All the phone does is vibrate when a msg is received or a call came via. Fixable? If I set the phone in alarm mode, it vibrates but does not ring which is ok since I am a light sleeper.

Tideman, can you be my friend, you can be the one to ring my phone :D

521656 2007-02-01 09:19:00 Check in the profile settings for General and Outdoor to make sure they haven't been changed to vibrate instead of ring.
You can personalise each profile so maybe someone has set them all to vibrate

521657 2007-02-01 09:31:00 I went via each .. and under personalise and then it says "ringing" under incoming call alert. If I choose the different ringing volume, and let it preveiw the ringtone, all it does is vibrate, there is no sound.

Another thing is each time I turn off the phone and back on, it loses its date and clock. I hardly turn my phone off so I just noticed that.

521658 2007-02-01 09:33:00 It shouldn't do that. They only do that if you remove the battery.
Sounds like it could be faulty. Still under warranty?

521659 2007-02-01 09:40:00 Oh .. I did dislodge the battery. So thats one less thing ;)
I just get no ringing speaker.
The Nokia startup tune works, I can talk on the phone, keypad sounds works but no ringing sounds (phonecalls or SMS).

I bought it 2nd hand on Trademe in 05.

521660 2007-02-01 09:43:00 I just did a factory reset. I redid the preview volume control and it did ring and vibrate, then after one or 1.5 rings it started shaking and faded off ....

Edit. I think it is faulty. After a reset its better. When a call is received or previewing ring tones, it rings and then crackles, hear static and it fades off, sounds like if a wire is lose is something ...

521661 2007-02-01 10:05:00 It may be fixed, its same old with the rattling static sound I think, maybe its not as durable as the 1990s Nokias. Think I dropped it once :D Well it saves me spending $300. Perhaps the Nokia O.S crashed. Nomad (952)

I've got a Nokia 6101 and it fell out of my pocket 3 metres onto concrete and survived with just a few scratches. I was very impressed.
