| 521312 | 2007-02-01 00:26:00 | The fact that this link is to a Romanian blog is suspect . . but not entirely without some reasonable truth . I don't condone hacking security stuff . . . . I don't consider Mr . Bill fair game . . . but I DO try to avoid his nonsense at all costs . This however, is the same area I was writing about and the DRM-lock in thing that the new OPSYS would try to create . This is especially evident in Vista, and as I see it, the way the "updates" to XP will eventually lead . I might've stepped on my own tail when I said the phone home rate was as high as I did . . . but the unsigned driver part is along the right path . I am still sticking to the phone home at a high rate though . . . it is too obvious and not really out of the realm of M$ and the demands for newer, hotter and more capable hardware for Vista . Time will prove it out or not . I am suspicious of anything "new and improved" in systems for users to help ease their way through mysterious lines of code . . etc as they are advertised and are supposed to implement . M$ rides high in my gun sights and I cannot say that emphatically enough . This actually started with my refusal to get the new/improved upgrade to WMP11 . . . as I see it, another DRM laced problem that will deny use of your hard paid-for CD's and DVD's in the future . You will even get blockages on your won, self-generated videos too . . . just ask those who are starting to have that problem . Since we have (in the US) the "Use By Proxy" law, which has as of yet to meet court time and declaration, I can continue to rip and copy what I personally own and have in my immediate possession . The MPA and RIAA don't want that day in court; it will not bode well for them . . . . . and here's the sneaky part . . . Microsoft has allied itself with the audio/visual studios in a contractual agreement to protect each other's backs . By that, I mean the M$ is going to implement and enforce DRM's that are to the great benefit of the studios . . but there's gotta be a $$$ trail somewhere for Mr . Bill to get involved . . . he runs best on great globs of money . Expect to see more strange bedfellows in the very near future . . and let's not forget to watch Google very closely too . . . after all, a company with a credo of "do nothing bad" is either fair game and in the cross hairs and sights to those who want to harm users, or Google is trying to pull a fast one by pleading non-malevolence . If we use unsigned drivers now and get flacked for it, what's next? |
