521296 2007-01-31 23:22:00 has anyone got the westpac debit visa card? works just like a credit card but it uses ur bank account to deduct funds. u don't need a credit score to get one. i downloaded the form from here:

westpac.co.nz

And there is a "password" thing on there i have to fill in. What password? Is this an online banking password?

i am not a westpac customer yet. it says westpac give you internet banking when u apply in branch.so when i apply in branch does the westpac person give me my westpac login name and password straight away? Or do i have to do this by phone? Don't tell me i have to go into westpac and apply for a savings account, then wait a few days and ring up to get a username and password, then go all the way back to the bank again and apply for a westpac visa debit card?

521297 2007-01-31 23:25:00 Go to NZPost and get a Prezzy card. It's a Visa prepaid card. bob_doe_nz (92)
521298 2007-01-31 23:43:00 Westpac looks like a EFTPOS card that has a debit c/c as a function.

Looks like you have to go in and open a chq or savings account, depends on the bank some banks send you a card in a few days, some have cards without the delay but the card won't have your name on it, some can usually give you a new workable card on the spot, not sure if Westpac is one of them. Not sure on the username and password, usually banks allow the person to sign up to internet banking by their own.

If you don't want the hassle, you can get one off NZ Post but the money will expire I heard if its not used up in a time frame. You can also get a normal credit card maybe off a student (tertiary) package from your current bank.

Any fees for the debit function with Westpac? Sounds a bit too good that they will allow you have a function of a c/c for free ......

521299 2007-02-01 00:26:00 i want the westpac one. i don't like nzpost one. westpac doesn't have expiry cuz it uses ur bank account. there is no catch. if u go to google and type in visa debit cards,u'll see all american banks have had these for years and years. lance4k (4644)
521300 2007-02-01 00:51:00 Call Westpac .. they are probably the best to ask. Nomad (952)
521301 2007-02-01 00:58:00 They allow you to apply for multiple products at the same time .... so you won't need to apply for one go back and apply for the 2nd and then for the 3rd then for the forth ........ All the banks I been with allows you to apply for internet and telephone banking first up as well.

Yes NZ has not got this and this, blah blah, if its not the net, its the banking and then its probably much more dependent upon how pple ***** about it. It took sometime for NZ to have McDonalds Hot Breakfast :D

Debit card fees by Westpac
westpac.co.nz

Looks like a $10 per card, I assume when it expires and a new one is issued its also payable and then $10 per courier, all my cards been in the post for free so I am stumped with this one. So that $20 first up to get started. 2.5% for FX rates service fees if buying from abroad in foreign funds. Withdraw cash in overseas $8 per time :D

521303 2007-02-01 01:56:00 I'd wait until your existing bank releases one. KiwiTT_NZ (233)
521304 2007-02-01 02:46:00 ...u'll see all american banks have had these for years and years. When BNZ introduced Visa to NZ way back in 1980, it was a Debit Card only. Phased out to a Credit Card fairly quickly though, as I remember... (I was working at a BNZ branch as a junior at the time) johcar (6283)
