2007-02-09 02:20:00 | Hi Guys I know it is not written down anywhere or set in stone,,, but What do you think the value of One Flybuys point is. That is if you need 400 Flybuys point to buy an item that sells for $ 80 in the shops then the value of a Flybuys point is 20 cents. I did some rough calculations last year and came up with a figure of about 20 cents. Have you any idea of what the value is roughly ? Regards Digby

That is to get a free item that cost $100 you will need to spend $1000 at Flybuy retailers. I worked it out for ticket to Oz - 1% using std airfare prices. Flybuys does not benefit from airfare discounts like airpoints. Ratio 1:100. If you compare what you lost out via the cheaper tickets, then this gets to 1:200 or worst. Brother scanner was around 0.5%. Ratio 1:200 I found Flybuys was nice that you get a bonus via your shopping but don't limit yourself to Flybuys. It can help you have a Flybuys supported credit card then you can get points from Pack and Save, The Warehouse and anything ... The fastest way I found is AirNZ Airpoints connected to Flybuys and a AirNZ supported c/c. Get tickets/hotels in supported franchises, use a travel agent under Flybuys and pay with a supported c/c. Or do the same with Qantas partners, AA loyalty card and its supported bank. To wack up points via airlines and hotels is a lot faster than just flybuys and with its c/c. You also have a 3 way approach gathering points with it ... I went over to EU and AirNZ partners was bit expensive, I chose a diff airline and saved $500. Get points where you can if they are lesser. |

2007-02-09 04:02:00 | Last month I got an Ergorapido Cordless Cleaner using 860 Fly Buy points and it cost $200 at Noel Lemmings. That works out to be 23.26 cents per point. So AvonBill's 20 cents is a good round figure to use. | Strommer (42) | |

2007-02-09 04:50:00 | Don't forget that Flybuys are raking it in several ways... they do not pay retail for anything that you 'purchase' from the Flybuys range, so something might be $200.00 recommended retail but they would only pay the supplier something like wholesale. Flybuys and their associated retailers etc also get the added bonus of all that lovely info that people in the scheme give them... when you shop, what you buy, how you buy, address etc etc... a real goldmine for marketers and companies. And then there's LOYALTY.... people will think they have to shop at a certain supermarket/petrol station book shop etc because they get Flybuys... wooohooo! I'd say that Flybuys are on a good wicket if you the public have to spend so much money to get so little. Why don't you just ask for a cash discount when you buy something? You'd be far better off

2007-02-13 01:37:00 | The problem with Fly-buys is they expire. I was going to take a free trip to Melbourne.. but I put it off for a month only to find out I didn't qualify anymore because 30 or so points had expired!! | wellyg33k (11804) | |
