523599 2007-02-07 23:08:00 I (cough) still have an old Amiga 500 that the parents got when i was just a little kid. They certainly knew how to make computers back then cause the machine still works flawlessly!!

The problem is is that the monitor for it has about had it (it still works, but there is a high pitched squeal coming from it that sets one's teeth on edge, and i'm afraid it wont last much longer). I was wondering if any of you lot knows whether it might be possible to somehow hook up an old crt (vga) monitor to it?
We have about 3 of them just lying around collecting dust.

I still like playing the occasional game on it now and then, and I've never been real fond of emulators - they just aren't quite the same!

523600 2007-02-07 23:22:00 No a CRT wont fit, the connection/cable is different to an Amiga monitor.

I think u can make an adapter for an amiga monitor, but you'll have to get the plug and parts and solder a few things together for it to work.

I used to have an Amiga 500+ too till the battery leaked. And that was the end of that. I've still got the A590, disks and the monitor tho.

523602 2007-02-08 00:41:00 Thanks for that info pctek, it made for interesting reading.

methinks it might be easier for me to find an old telly with SCART or somthing similer than to try and mess with scandoublers, flickerfixers, dual LCD's etc... assuming I could find any here in ol NZ of course.......

523603 2007-02-08 07:28:00 I may just have an Amiga monitor available for sale. It has been waiting about 8 years for me to fit a new transformer, which I have, so I'll fit it tomorrow and see if it works.

If interested, PM me please with your location. I am AK.

Cheers

523605 2007-02-08 20:01:00 Nigel this page (http://www.winuae.net/) has a utility called ADFRead on it that sounds like it will do what you want.

Here is the direct link to the file. (www.winuae.net)

Alternatively, if your PC is fast enough and you have the Kickstart disk images, WinUAE is a very good Amiga emulator.

523606 2007-02-08 21:24:00 Cool I'll have a look at that

Scored an A520 today for a $1, no cables though (A520 is the thingie that lets you attach the amiga to a modern TV)

Hopefully it works, but for a $1 it won't be a great loss

523607 2007-02-08 23:54:00 Billy T: I transported the amiga up to my room from the basement, plugged everything in, and gave it power.
The monitor seems to be behaving itself for now (eg: no suspicious noises, shrieks, moans, groans, wines etc) so I might get a bit more time out of it than I thought.
Now I have to try and fix my joystick (if possible). It only seems to want to work left and up. not right and down. And a lot of Amiga games really needed a joystick to play properly.

523608 2007-02-13 05:40:00 Hey Sherman

How do you fix the joysticks, as I have 3

One works properly
one only goes left to right
one goes forward and back only

Is there anything i should try to get them work?
