523592 2007-02-07 23:05:00 Joined a photography club. Some pple only have Photoshop Elements. I have never used it, I may download the demo and have a play around with it ..

What user inteface is it. I understand it does not have curves, are their levels? Can you work in layers or use the lasso tool and do selective adjustments (on one layer)? When go to b/w do you have sliders for each color channel?

Are their transform tools like skew, rotate by dragging the mouse, likewise to perspective control?

When you open a RAW file, what options do you have? I understand it has RAW capability. How does its dialog box compare to say ACR (of full Photoshop)?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

523593 2007-02-07 23:23:00 Can't help with your questions, but I thought Elements was a cut-down version of Photoshop, which if you have, you won't need Elements. Greg (193)
523594 2007-02-07 23:36:00 I want to get some working exp with it .. while helping others who are quite new to photog and photo editing.

I may download it and give it kick around. 500MB!
It is a cut down version, supports RAW and color mgmt AFAIK.

Some yrs ago it used to be called Photohop LE which was the same as PS but you had limited amount of layers.

523595 2007-02-07 23:47:00 Is Photoshop worth the extra $$ compared to Photoshop Elements?

If you do get Elements, make sure you get the latest version (5 i believe)

Plus that link tells you how to unlock some functionalities that Elements is missing.

523596 2007-02-08 00:27:00 I've only got PS E ver2 so probably not much help to you as I believe it's changed a bit (for the better).

Anyway, this is what is in ver 2:

User interface - pass. I've not used the full version. Have you used the Gimp? Well it's not like that :p

Layers - yes.

Work in layers - yes.

Colour channel sliders in B/W - Not sure, you do in colour so I presume yes.

Transform tools - yes.

RAW files - I'm not sure, my version requires a plugin and is very limited when using RAW files.

523597 2007-02-08 05:11:00 Thanks I downloaded it and had a go, 30mins download :D costed me 50c.

Its a nice software, I would of preferred a Photoshop LE - full function with fewer layers at any one time.

Less cluttered and feels more homely than the pro version. Somtimes you won't have access to the industry techniques you have to do an extra step or fool it someway another ...

In Photoshop Elements is it possible to do a digital blend? Like with a sunset photo, you have 2 and you blend it together. It doesn't appear to have adjustment layer and reveal all ....

On the other hand, I found a donkey way of working in b/w, duplicate layer and then convert to b/w with its faultless wizard and then you have two layer :p

Thanks for any help.
