2007-02-06 05:22:00 | The search for a digital still camera continues... I've been down to camera stores and played around with a number of different cams, but it's getting hard to separate them. Two models that have come to the forefront are the Sony Cybershot H2, and the Canon S3IS. I'd be really interested to hear reviews from PF1'ers who have used either of these cameras. User reviews on DPReview can often be contradictory or approaching it from a semi-professional level, so everyday opinions would be interesting. If you haven't used one of these two, buthave used something similar, please let me know what you think of it. Cheers Lizard

2007-02-06 07:22:00 | These days there is not a lot between cameras in the same price bracket so go with the one you physically feel most comfortable with. In the end it is the photographer who makes the picture. Mind you the camera snobs will say go with the Canon. | tutaenui (1724) | |

2007-02-06 19:24:00 | Thanks for the links - I've been through DPReview, and had a look at some user reviews from Google, but I was hoping to hear first hand accounts from people round here. Both the Sony and the Canon feel good - the minor differences between them tend to cancel each other out. It's impossible to tell just by playing with it in the store what it would be like to "live with", though. I know from experience the little things can become pretty annoying when you use it regularly... But there's no way to determine this from a 10 minute demo in a store...

2007-02-06 20:21:00 | maybe i'm stupid but why do you say that and what exactly do you mean?? By camera snobs I mean camera owners and those people who review cameras, particularly in the the old style camera magazines, who can't see past the traditional camera manufacturers and cannot accept that the electronic giants such as Sony or Samsung can make decent Cameras. In my opinion you have to go to the web to get unbiased reviews.

2007-02-06 21:14:00 | I have decided on Canon Powershot G7 (www.dpreview.com). And reading actual owners comments on Canon Talk (forums.dpreview.com) there is virtually all praise from people who have bought it and no one has really regretted their purchase. I was considering an UltraZoom like the S3 IS, Panasonic FZ-7, but asked myself "do I need a 12x Zoom?" The G7 has 6x, which would be ample for me, plus at 10 MP, I can always crop an image an enlarge the section I need on the PC.
