522472 2007-03-13 10:22:00 Billy, on that basis we excuse real estate agents who will say anything to make a sale, or shoddy builders who put up houses that may not eaxctly be life threatening, but all the same cause many problems for unsuspecting owners, often several sales removed from the original owners. However, I have some understanding for underpaid, often commission, sales people with little real support or training from their employees. However, as with real estate agents and builders, I have no sympathy for liars or people who cause others misery through their lack of knowledge or care.

Of course we reserve the greatest disdain for those who cause injury or death through their shoddy actions. It's a matter of degree.

522473 2007-03-13 10:48:00 Personally, I'd be more worried about the motor mechanics servicing modern vehicles . Not getting RAM right is hardly life threatening, but cocking up ABS or any of the hi-tech braking, steering or other safety related features is likely to seriously affect your life expectancy .

Going to A&E (or being carried there) is even more hazardous . Who wants to be seen by a Doctor who has had 6 hours rest in the last 48 hours?

firstly mechanics (and doctors) are all trained professionals, unlike the students working at DSE . I have found many DSE floor staff to be somewhat knowledgeable, or atleast more knowledgeable than the average customer, when talking about products for sale BUT i don't expect them to competently do the job of a trained technician as that isn't what they are .

why and how dse floor staff get put in those situations, just like doctors operating 24hr shifts, is an issue that the people up top need to deal with, but may not necessarily be aware of . . . :2cents:

speaking of the A&E, when my mate caught a nylon fishing line on muriwai on his dirtbike, with his neck, we were waiting for 3 hours before a nurse even came to give him some pain relief . 6 hours before he saw a doctor, several more for surgery . :yuck: we need more doctors, and the govt . should do something to stop them all going to australia or things will get worse .

and spelling? firefox has a built in spellchecker that underlines incorrectly spelled words . spell checkers are useless without context, and useless if the writer doesn't know which word to use anyway (like 'to' and 'too', and the correct use of an apostrophe before s

522474 2007-03-13 10:51:00 and what about commission? i find shops where salespeople aren't paid on commission are much friendlier and nicer to frequent. examples include glover real estate and mt. eden motorcycles motorbyclist (188)
522475 2007-03-13 10:56:00 At the very least I must give the nod to the local DSE for one reason, Apart from the fact that the current crew have a pretty good knowledge If I ask and they don't know they get someone who does, I presume the manager has told em to do so.

We need more IT businesses / personnel like that!

522476 2007-03-13 14:53:00 actually as I understand it they didn't just put some ram in 'at the counter' cause they had to fire up the pc also they installed a dvd drive at the same time thus it was most likely their 'tech' who did the job......some years ago I passed the 'new zealand certificate of retail' (with merit) and this lack of simple knowledge by someone who was there to install a part is in my view and understanding poor to say the least. 'so they lost a sale' .......well how do you expect they get paid ?......from sales....they also lost credibility...and one wonders at the quality of their 'tech' work by that person as they showed a very poor understanding of how computers work and indeed simple logic..... drcspy (146)
522477 2007-03-13 21:13:00 DSE stores offer 0.5% commission I believe.

A friend who works there was telling me that many of the stores have people of 'specialize' in certain areas, such as if you have a good knowledge of cables / wiring / soldering then you'd be a priority to serve a customer walking around there. If you were the 'specialist with cameras' then you'd be the ideal person to assist anybody hovering around the digital cameras...

..Just what I'd been told though, could be wrong, although I know it to be true at 3+ stores

Useless knowledge I know, but I find it interesting

Do they know what day it is?
However, for blatant customer scorn First Mobile, Birkenhead win the Oscar. Again.
Serves me right for shopping there.

522479 2007-03-14 06:58:00 If DSE get commission then that explains why they seem to sell every sucker who walks in the store Internet Security packages they don't really need.

As for standards of English - have you noticed every teacher thinks standards are in decline, and in a hundred years they'll be saying the same thing. If this current rate of decline continues I expect no one will understand a werd orv inglis bi de inddove der yer.

are standards dropping or in our language simply changing/evolving...

then again, people who write using 'TXT language' are just plain annoying, even when txting.

the atrocious spelling that i've seen lately is shocking,

but i suppose if the intended audience can easily understand it then why not?
