I hope the "loosing" they do is not related to a bodily function. Now it stand for Excellent. Sounds like a cryptc crossword clue. 10 letter anagram of "now it stand", meaning excellent. If you must to be a pedant, Tom, you should try harder to get things right. Alternatively, you could subscribe to drcspy's view that near enough is good enough, providing everybody understands it. |

Some arent the brightest cookies, but I know some who work at DSE who deserve to be in much higher paying roles... But yeah, I kinda wonder, HDD partitioning!?! Sometimes applying a little logic before opening the mouth is all it'd take :D |

Oh dear. I thought I was perfect and now I know I'm not. But I do TRY to get things right. I always use a spell checker for instance. I think my many fans deserve the best (both of them). Near enough - good enough. H'm. Very often in the past I would have been hung out to dry if I had that attitude with my employers. But I do like being a pedant. I thought I was good at it. I'm also stubborn and good at that too. Trouble is my grandchildren are showing the same attitude. Gosh they can be irritating. By the way cryptc should be spelt cryptic. Chuckle. Tom |

| 522468 | 2007-03-12 20:47:00 | Staff at DSE, Harvey Norman & Noel Leeming et al have to know a little about a large number of products spread over a wide range of technologies . It is a bit much to expect them to be experts on everything, and mistakes will be made . They probably have to spend their own time in out of hours training as well, and as like as not without pay . The majority of customers are well satisfied, and their sales figures and profits support that conclusion, so there's not a lot to complain about . The view from the perspective of self-classified "experts" is quite different, and is therefore likely to be damning, but it is not statistically significant, you don't know (and will never know) how much sound advice has been provided . Personally, I'd be more worried about the motor mechanics servicing modern vehicles . Not getting RAM right is hardly life threatening, but cocking up ABS or any of the hi-tech braking, steering or other safety related features is likely to seriously affect your life expectancy . Going to A&E (or being carried there) is even more hazardous . Who wants to be seen by a Doctor who has had 6 hours rest in the last 48 hours? Cheers Billy 8-{) |

So they lost a sale, that probably happens many times a day for more reasons than poor advice, in fact they more than likely rack up quite a few compensatory sales from misinformed or over-enthusiatic advice. The DSE in-house techs are for servicing, hence the schedule of rates. They are not there to come out to the counter or to do simple ram changes etc. If they did you'd balk at the charges, which usually run in 15 minute minimums. Cheers Billy 8-{) |

Its their job to know, and if they don't then they either need to get someone who does or be upfront about what they do not know. Now, To put it in perspective I was happy with the information provided when I went with the oldboy to get him a Digicam, I was less impressed when I purchased a $600 camera that I only got after being "informed" it took better pics then the other model I was looking at, Comparing the output side-by-side this isn't the case, $600 for an inferior product based on a lie is to me a big deal. Onto PC's, I have had salesmen tell me outright lies because they think they can make a sale, Deny a better product exists simply because they had never heard of it, Claim a funky named mobo was a "rebranded Asus", that BTC are the best optical drives on the market, 12MS is a super fast refresh rate for an LCD, Etc etc, And I have overheard far far worse as they talk to customers who don't know any better. Its a sad state of affairs, and inexcusable. At the very least I must give the nod to the local DSE for one reason, Apart from the fact that the current crew have a pretty good knowledge If I ask and they don't know they get someone who does, I presume the manager has told em to do so. |
