| 522443 | 2007-02-07 07:34:00 | Anyone actually see that Harvey Norman advert in the paper? I was looking at the latest DSE brochure and all the computers with 512 MB of RAM had Vista Basic installed while the 1 GB RAM machines had Vista Home Premium (or greater). Maybe the Harvey Norman ad was a typo and was supposed to say Vista Basic ... |

Most people who are after the entry level machines only want it for trademe and surfing, why the hell do they need to buy an uber machine for that. as for failure rates for electronics the ratios are as follows 1-3% first year 5-12% second Year up to 25% third year These might not be total system failure but a failur in the product somehow, this goes right across the electronic product range from Computers, Plasma TV, MP3 players etc. Everytime i have had to deal with them they have always been pretty good about had a couple of problems but they where fixed as soon as i went up there chain of command. btw they dont make the machines there suppliers do such as toshiba & HP should they be bagged for putting Vista on those low spec machines and then on selling them? |

Having said that, While their gear is crappy and expensive, The rubbish spewed forth by the "expert" salespersons is far far worse. |

I'm sort of looking forward to it :horrified They other day when I was driving across Melling Bridge going into Lower Hutt they hadn't finished putting up the sign and it said "Harvey No"... I should have taken a picture  |

Then where should the standard consumer go for a PC? Having said that, While their gear is crappy and expensive, The rubbish spewed forth by the "expert" salespersons is far far worse. Do you take them to task with thier manager? cause the only way you can improve the service is by letting the powers that be know. how would you suggest they be trained?, what would you say would improve them? |

| 522449 | 2007-03-11 08:03:00 | Then where should the standard consumer go for a PC? Try your local PC shop, a few words will soon tell you if you are dealing with a drongo, and usually you won't be. If they are an owner operated business and they have been there a couple of years, they are assuredly competent. (Or great sales persons, see sentence one.) Do you take them to task with thier manager? cause the only way you can improve the service is by letting the powers that be know. how would you suggest they be trained?, what would you say would improve them? With H.N., unfortunately while you can lead a horse to water, ... To train them, reward even the smallest sign of promise with bananas. To improve them, try a lobotomy. |

| 522450 | 2007-03-11 08:37:00 | I'm not rich enough to buy a computer off Harvey Norman - it would cost me three times as much to get a third of what I have . Want amusing conversations with customers - hang around any Dick Smith branch, it never ceases to amaze me the advice they give customers almost every time I go in there . |

If they are an owner operated business and they have been there a couple of years, they are assuredly competent. (Or great sales persons, see sentence one.) The problem i have with that is finding a good PC store to buy from every one i have been through, have zero after sales support for customers, first one cases me and my mate out with a screw driver when try to sort out problem with faulty PC, that was PC Unlimited, second was a faulty mother board brought straight from a distrubutor Renasance (sp), replace three times, finally now been screwed around by Dragon PC, here in CHCH over a faulty power supply These have ment to be the better PC retailers to buy from, got worse service from them than i ever have had at Harvey Norman, after sales is good can get my warranty put out for 60 months, have a tech onsite DSE and Noels dont have or even make an attempt at that. As for prices i haven't ever had them not better a price i've seen else where. As for the salemen, normally i know i want befor i get there so don't really deal with them much. but all in all they try and be helpful, which is better than ignoreing you like they do at Noels and DSE. Mind you i don't expect them to know everything the same way i don't expect a car salesman to rebuild my engine, i think we are probably alot harder on computer salesmen being geeks than we are on other salesmen, same way a courier is probably harder on carsalesmen. |
