523639 2007-02-08 23:17:00 Kiwitt, it's a bit of rich irony that on the one hand this pundit is saying that the media has been, is and should continue to be influential in the lives of the great unwashed, politicians and governments in general.. blah blah blah, but blames the great unwashed for not being influenced enough and demanding their pound of good standards.

If I've completely got the wrong end of the stick, I'll post a retraction when I've read it. :D

Shoot first, trite insincere apology later.

523640 2007-02-08 23:37:00 Laura, the article may be a beat-up, it certainly appears that way, however the fact was that MS chose to be obstructive, yes obstructive, for their own reasons, not on the basis of NZ law or what is good for NZ or the victim (remember him?).

Hahaha...enjoyed that! Well put.

The victim seems to count for little these days.

523645 2007-02-14 11:47:00 well the 14y/o would have gotten off scott free anyway, so it doesn't matter.

as far as MS is concerned, they don't want a lawsuit because they divulged confidential information, and must maintain a reputation of not abusing their vast data stores on each of us.
really, the police should have hurried up with the court order.

now, that kid was pretty stupid to call up and give the rego number, can't MS block a registered xbox from all the online content if the registered owner declares it stolen? if not they should, it's just like the VIN/chassis/engine numbers on cars, except imprinted on some ROM somewhere and used to log on to xbox live

could stop pirates too if they are emulating an xbox on their pc
