729295 2008-12-15 09:19:00 Well figured out how to install it, but buggered if I know what youre meant to do with it

I want something simple, not a degree to figure out what it is, or what to do with it

Think I'll get virtualbox, when and if it decides to download

Have you connected to your host via the VMware Server Console?

Then it's just a case of:
- File new
- use the wizard
- accept most of the defaults
- choose settings such as # processors/memory/disk size
- choose network access (bridged==appears on network itself, nat'd==uses host's IP settings/NIC, or none, for no network access)
- format a virtual disk
- start the VM and point it to an iso
- install away in the vm

729296 2008-12-15 09:27:00 Got the 64Bit version coming through now - started off at 400 KB/Sec - but slowed to a steady 88KB/sec - If you have any problems let me know and I'll put it on my server so you can grab it from there - wgtn -> Alk should be fast enough :D

Edited : OK got it.

It kept on bringing up an error loading the local site / whatever its meant to load.

And an invalid certificate, and a password prompt.

Buggered if I know what I had to put in there

I removed it.

729298 2008-12-15 09:51:00 Hmm... that sounds dodgy, and I just noticed that VMware is touting version 2.0 of their Server product.

I'm still using version 1.0.8.
Sorry to put you awry and wasting and hour or so of your time...

729299 2008-12-15 11:02:00 No probs . In the end I decided to take a gamble and burn the ISO Nlite made on this .

And take it for a test run (clean install again) . And it looks like it worked !

Went to the WU site . So far, so good . Only 2 updates were there (the flash update and the Malicious software removal tool)

All I had to install manually, were the net framework files/updates .

And the video drivers . I'll see if theres an install file for the NF install (like there was for x32) . It'll save me installing them after an install (they'll get slipstreamed instead)

729300 2008-12-16 21:07:00 Virtual Server 2005 R2 runs on both 32-bit and 64-bit (x64) host operating systems. It supports both AMD64 and Intel IA-32e/EM64T (x64) processors. Note that Virtual Server 2005 R2 does not support Itanium (IA-64) processors. Earlier versions of Virtual Server run on x64-based hardware provided it is running a 32-bit version of a supported host operating system.

Note that Virtual Server 2005 R2 requires that guest operating systems be 32-bit.

729301 2008-12-16 21:17:00 Virtual PC supports 32 and 64 bit .

That wasnt the prob .

Virtual PC couldnt boot / (it didnt have an option in it for 64 bit virtual OS / 64 bit ISO's), so I could test it

I got it sussed now anyway . I've made the 64 bit ISO and burned it and installed it on the other PC . Worked fine .

I'll keep 64 bit on it, so I can add /slipstream further updates to the copy of x64 I've done .

729302 2008-12-16 21:20:00 VMware is much better than virtual box....you can also download the convertor and turn a existing physical box into a virtual box....

I am a BIG fan of VMware....I run a Virtual Infrustructure here at work with 1 Live, 1 DR and 1 test host and about 15 servers......VM's rock!

729303 2008-12-16 21:28:00 If I could figure out how to use VMware, I would use it lol

Somehow, whatever I downloaded, it looked more like some kind of server software. It inc Tomcat, and something else I've never heard of.

And I just CBF trying it out / or trying to figure out what it is / was / or how to use it :p

And it didnt work, too many errors, it wouldnt / couldnt even load the login info, without bringing up errors
