1500 x 20 /100 = 300 bucks. Using my earlier 1% figure.

Off AirNZ's site a full price fare is around $284. One Way.
When you get special fares, AirNZ points required drops, Flybuys does not drop.
Last week I got a Aussie fare for $114 one way, off the airpoints so it was free.

Edit. Even if you dont have the AirNZ supported c/c you can throw over the Flybuys to plain AirNZ Airpoints. One thing with the GlobalPlus is if you dont fly once a year you have a yearly fee for membership. GlobalPlus holders are exempted.

Qantas Freq Flyer does not expire, nor Qantas ANZ card. The latter has some bonus points partners, while not comprehensive as Flybuys they have many of the neccessities. Qantas has free yearly membership. We got ours when they had free joining.

But it is part of their marketing budget. Many people will use shell ,just to get flybuys, so it is obvously paying off for them. The payoff for most flybuys users is very small, as many people find their points will expire before they get the chance to use them. I have found that on average, retailers who have flybuys tend to be higher priced than competing companies who don't have flybuys.

524107 2007-02-15 07:15:00 AirNZ Flybuys combo is made tougher now with their intro to Airpoint dollars.
One typical asian return fare yieleds 120 points one way and 10 for the national connection, return a total of 260pt. Fare is usually 1600 at best that is about 9% at my former calculations.

Qantas and ANZ card with bonus partners like Countdown and BP etc.. don't expire ever and don't have annual fees if you dont travel once a yr or have a specific c/c to be exempted. 12k points for a return trip, 84k required for free, thats about 16% I think.

IMO if you are wanting decent long haul flights its more harder. On the other hand if you are looking for dirt cheap fares when they come like Aussie, Pac Islands which is not too uncommon its easier with AirNZ.

I did some maths, Qantas you get around that 84,000 figure if you travel once a yr (for 5yr) with some shopping.
AirNZ you get around $1,000 Airpoints if you travel once a yr and some shopping (included with Flybuys and stuff), $1,000 just not enof to get a return ticket further than the Pac Islands "any" time of the yr. Then they will slowly expire.

Wasn't too bad when they had the old points I got a return fare to Japan for free. Now I be lucky if I get $1,000 airpoints (in 5yrs).

Maybe I get a Qantas card, not shopped in New World in yrs and yrs anyway.
