| 523855 | 2007-02-09 00:39:00 | Problem solved if suvs were only allowed in if they met the crash standards. That all cars have to and SUV's don't is a stupid situation. Wasn't a good look when one of the SUV testers actually liked the vehicle so much she wanted one :) There are few valid reasons for those pedestrian and car killers on the road. Hey 10 years ago we all got around in stationwagons and utes. I didn't hear of people complaining about things back then. |

| 523856 | 2007-02-09 03:41:00 | The problem is when it turns to custard and a 4WD is involved in an accident (be it caused by the driver or other events), it causes more damage to other parties, be it smaller vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists etc, especially if it has bull bars. . Yes. So.....ban them? Better ban trucks and trains too then. They cause lots of carnage when involved in accidents with cars and pedestrians. |

Yes, the minister of transport is in the process of it as we speak :D Of course I can't dispute that big vehicles can cause big damage, but the frequency of truck and train crashes is less than 4WD accidents as there are less of them on the road. You are free to buy what you like, but for goodness sake, learn how to use it properly and if you go out of control, aim for the open area (having rolled 6 times). |

| 523859 | 2007-02-09 04:38:00 | I say tax them off the road. Can't see past them (try overtaking one) Can't see around them (try backing out of a park beside one, or attempt a left turn at intersection with one besde you) Diesel ones smoke worse than a bus (try sitting in traffic behind one) There are far more ways these monsters put our lives at risk than just by hitting us with their bull bars. The drivers are arrogant or so sure of their invincibility that they don't care about anything else on the road. 4X4 drivers in the city are scum of the earth, they all know it but it's the 'I'm safe... sc**w you' mentality... except for PCtech because she lives in Invercargill and so can be excused for not knowing any better :D Before people start jumping up and down... I drive all day in Auckland and north, have done for 15 years (when 4x4s started appearing) and I cringe every time one gets within 5 metres of me. The people who drive them (both men and women) are almost without exception tossers- there is no polite way to say it. They should be banned form city streets and left to rust on the farm. Typical Government minister: "My staff are beavering away with more important legislation etc.... bla bla bla... but we'll get around to it one day... bla bla bla" |

It makes occasional trips to auckland, as it is a big vehicle and can transport a lot of gear. We actually use the 4 wheel drive mode fairly frequently. So why the hate? Just because I have a different lifestyle to you? |

Just because I have a different lifestyle to you? But you appear to use it for what its designed for. The majority of people use them to get the groceries/got to work. Again, thats their choice, but us lowly 2WD drivers don't have to agree that thats the best way of doing it especially when they block our view of the traffic. :xmouth: |
